ABOUT  US

pedigree matters.

Most.

In Krav Maga, pedigree signifies a profound connection to the system's roots, notably to its founder, Imi Lichtenfeld. This lineage is not merely about tracing back to the origin but embodying the wisdom and principles Imi instilled. Through this direct line of knowledge, which has been honed in real conflict, the techniques taught are not just moves but part of a comprehensive survival strategy. This curriculum, steeped in the insights of Imi Lichtenfeld, offers more than self-defense tactics—it fosters a way of life. The Krav Maga Worldwide community holds deep respect for this heritage, dedicating itself to preserving the integrity and depth of Imi’s teachings, thereby ensuring that pedigree remains the cornerstone of authentic self-defense skills.

Our history began with Imi Lichtenfeld, and its preservation in the United States was carried forward by Darren Levine.

In 1981, Darren was among the first Americans invited to train directly under Imi in Israel. Over years of close mentorship and friendship, he absorbed not only techniques, but the governing principles and architectural integrity of the system itself. Imi awarded Darren one of only two Founder’s Diplomas prior to his passing in 1998—formal recognition of both mastery and trust.

Darren founded the Krav Maga Association of America and later Krav Maga Worldwide to ensure that the system would not fragment as it expanded. Under his leadership, Krav Maga in the United States maintained a direct and disciplined connection to its roots. He was awarded the designation of Grand Master during his lifetime, and posthumously recognized as a 10th Degree Black Belt in acknowledgment of decades spent safeguarding the system.

His legacy is not measured simply in rank or title, but in the structure he preserved and the standards he refused to compromise. Through his stewardship, pedigree remained intact—not as nostalgia, but as responsibility.

KMW LEADERSHIP TEAM

what does this mean for you?

Training with a Krav Maga Worldwide officially licensed school gives you training that is closest to the founder and source, Imi Lichtenfeld. Over the years, many organizations have attempted to claim authenticity that remains disconnected. Darren Levine, Founder and Chief Instructor of Krav Maga Worldwide, was presented with Imi’s own Black Belt - a true testament to the belief that Darren would pass along the knowledge that is the true essence of Krav Maga. As an organization, we are dedicated to preserving the work, while innovating for the future; in essence, “old school grind, new world concepts”.

Now, with the inclusion of licensees on our leadership team, KMW has a better understanding of the needs and challenges faced by our licensees. This ensures that our support is more tailored and effective, providing the resources and guidance necessary for every Krav Maga school to thrive.
