And just that quickly, the Marni Fund, now estimated at
$58,000 became the Marni Levine Memorial Award presented
November 15th at the STOP CANCER 15th Annual Research Awards
Evening held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Beverly Hills.
Dr. Melanie Palomares of
City of Hope Comprehensive Cancer Center received a
$100,000 seed grant to continue her research in breast
cancer prevention and targeted treatments.

The evening began with a cocktail hour during which STOP

recipients, all of whom have received $100,000 grants to
continue their cancer research in their specialization.
Melanie.
R. Palomares, M.D., M.S., is Assistant Professor of Medical
Oncology and Population Sciences, and serves as a Staff
Physician in the City of Hope Cancer Screening & Prevention

She has a unique multidisciplinary training which led her to
specialize in the care of both patients who are at increased

expertise breast cancer chemoprevention trials, including

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to this fund. Dr.
Palomares’ grant would not have been possible without all of
your good work and contributions.
KMNTC:
WHAT AN INCREDIBLE DAY!!! 100 individuals contributed to the
Marni Fund. Most people participated in the seminar, but
some just came
to donate and show their support. We raised
roughly $8,700 and contributions continue to come in. An
additional $250 was raised from the proceeds of merchandise
sales.
The day began with Chief Instructor Darren Levine entering
to a round of applause. He was noticeably touched and
expressed his gratitude to all who participated and
contributed to the Marni Fund, Fighting to STOP CANCER. What
a moment!
But the real surprise was how many outstanding Krav Maga
instructors came to assist Darren in the Hand Gun Seminar,
the first class he has taught at the KMNTC since Marni’s
passing: Wade Allen, Mitch Tavera, Jon Pascal and Amir
Perets were all in attendance.
Kelly Campbell’s Rape Prevention Seminar had about 13
attendees. She was assisted by Johnathan Dugas and Maribel
Munguia. Participants covered awareness, mind set (you are
not a victim), attacks from the side and behind as well as
attacks from a pinned down position while the attacker is
mounted.
Karen Tintfass, a seminar participant, felt “More confident
about [her] own abilities to defend herself,” after the Rape
Prevention Course.

Bas Rutten taught an Intro Fight Class with KMNTC General
Manager, Marcus Kowal. Instructor Jr. Merkel assisted.
All in all it was an incredible day, and there is no better
cause than fighting cancer in Marni’s name.

KMW EUROUPE:
In the Netherlands:
(As reported by Thierry Viature and Gerwin Kranenburg)
It was a great experience. For the seminar, 45 people
attended the course and Gerwin got the media attention from
all the local press (in advance, but also during the evening
they all showed up with their photographers.) The papers
will come this week, we can't wait to see / read them.
Most people attending were people coming from my members
(friends, colleagues, family) and just a few from the media
attention, but when walking through the city, most people
recognize me and talk to me about the seminar (so the
attention was a good thing anyway!).
I chose a "rape prevention Night Theme" to create a link
between women fighting for their lives when being attacked
and women fighting another unfair fight against breast
cancer. During this seminar men were allowed to participate
and donate. In our effort to generate as much money as
possible, we promoted the 100% donation to Pink Ribbon,
which resulted in four front page covers (above the fold)
and a few other articles in the local and regional
newspapers.
Looking back, it was a great experience. We encountered
nothing but positive contributions, everybody helped out (a
real team effort!) to make the night a great success.
In Italy:
(As reported by Thierry Viature)
First of all, it should be known that the province of
Bergamo records the highest rate of cancer in Italy. This is
partly caused by the lifestyle (tobacco, alcohol,
sedentarism, etc.) and prevention misses it. The League
Against Cancer of Bergamo has difficulties making citizens
aware. In fact, people prefer to deny the disease rather
than to accept reality.
The common denominator between an organization which fights
against Cancer and Krav Maga Worldwide is the preventive
aspect. We want to make our community safer and healthier
through the system that we teach! And they want to educate
and make people aware by various actions.
We received a good reception and we exposed the good will of
our action with enthusiasm. Because of the public relation
of the League Against Cancer of Bergamo, this week Larissa
obtained an interview on the radio and the local TV.
The TV show was in direct (30 min. - 18h00 till 18h30) and
it was transmitted one more time the next morning.
In the same time, we have started to promote our Krav Maga
Center of Bergamo by making boxes mass marketing -10,000
folders!
We made new registrations this Saturday and we have
increased requests for our classes. Although, we didn't have
a lot of people for the course, only 15 students to be
honest... The League against Cancer was enchanted and wishes
to intensify collaboration.
STOP
CANCER™ was created to meet the need for cancer
research funding, and Krav Maga™ is joining the fight to
“help make the world a better place” by increasing personal
safety in our communities and stopping cancer. The goal is
to raise more than $50,000 for cancer research at National
Cancer Institute—designated comprehensive cancer centers.
These funds will be matched by receiving hospitals with an
impact of $100,000 toward cancer research.
Will
you join our fight to
STOP CANCER in our lifetime?
