I was referring to Eyal Yanilov's book \"How to defend yourself against armed assault\" knife threat from front. The technique specifies defending knifed hand with single hand and other hand counter punching.

Amir Peret's DVD, another great source has frontal knife threat defending with both hands, counter attacking with kicks and head butt.

What's the approach current KM is taking. Better with both hands?

Both are possible, depending on the angle at which the knife is held. The nice thing about the single hand/punch is that it is very similar to gun defense, so the technique will fly out of you quickly.

HOWEVER, the two-handed motion is the one we show more often. It is much more secure.
