I was reading in the paper this morning of an interview with a customer at my bank.He was in line for a teller. The man in front of him pulled a gun & made the teller hand him the money.

If you were behind the robber, what specific movements would you do to eliminate the threat? We are taught defense against gun from behind, from in front,etc..

But here, your behind the gunman. The bank was crowded at the time. There were lines of customers on both sides. The teller was in front of the gunman.

what would you do to eliminate the threat while not placing the other customers at great risk?

Yes,you could do nothing, but then how would you feel if the robber put a bullet in the teller before fleeing?

There is a section of our gun defenses called \"Third Party Protection\" that covers this. The disarm is, in principle, similar to the movement for Gun From Side in front of the Arm.

In general, the redirecting movement is lateral (parallel to the floor) but you can also make it upwards if you are worried about bystanders (a lateral movement tends to be a stronger movement for the defender, but the upward movement is also effective).

\"Yes,you could do nothing, but then how would you feel if the robber put a bullet in the teller before fleeing?\"

I would be happy it wasn't me!

We are not superheroes we are tought to defend ourselves, as a bank teller learning to would probably be a good idea.

If the Teller was a friend or family member, I would try something. That's it.

What if you try something, and it doesn't work? The Assailant gets pissed, caps you, the teller, and 5 other people!

There are plenty of what ifs.

The truth of the matter is the guy's there for money, he knows as soon as he hurts somebody the penalty if he gets caught triples. Just let him take the money and go, after all its not your money is it.

Other than that, Adios amigos!
