I'm having trouble visualizing how I can use my left hand to block a left punch & do it in such a way that it is an inside defense.

I can see me slapping the the attackers incoming punch with my left hand & then hammerfisting with the same hand;but in my mind that would be an outside defense not an inside one since I'm slapping the incoming punch outward.

Could someone describe the Inside Defense & counter v. left punch using left hand?
Thanks

It's an inside defense because you are moving your hand toward the \"inside\". This move is usually because you misread which hand was coming or your right hand is unavailable. Inside defenses usually start with the hands up with some anticipation of an incoming attack. The outside defenses usually start with the hands down and take the shorter path to the outside rather than coming up and then toward the \"inside\".

Hope this helps,

DJ

dj's explanation is a good one.

Also, remember, this is never preferred. It's an out of position defense in most cases.
