Default Heavy Bag question

I'm thinking about getting a free standing heavy bag. I'm looking at the full length bags on a base vs the one's with a stick or bare structure between the base and the striking zone.

http://www.cheapboxing.com/ulfrstbag1.html

Anyone have experience with this type of heavy bag?

Anyone have structural issues mounting/hanging a Muay Thai bag in the garage?

Suggestions, comments, concerns

Thanks,

There's lots and lots of heavy bag threads on this forum. Some searching should yield good results. My general adivce: I wouldn't but that one. I've never heard of the company so the quality is suspect. The bit about the UFC fighters using it is sort of misleading. They might hit it before a match because they paid for the product placement and because before in the ring they're not in a gym, and you can't hang a heavy bag where they are (and they're not really going all out anyway- warming up for a fight is not training. I'm not much a fan of standing bags because I broke one at the seam pretty quickly and water came out. Having broken and seen broken several heavy bags, I officially endorse Title boxing heavy bags, because they reinforce them where the chains attach and often times use six chains instead of four, because they know that a heavy bag will fail at those points. I've gone through several Everlast bags, and I don't think I'll get another. If you're training for the long haul, don't be afraid to spend some extra money- it will be worth it in the long run because you won't have to replace it like a cheaper sporting goods store bag. I cringed a little when I saw that the URL was cheapboxing.com. Quality is cheaper in the long run than cheap right now. Even if you go with a standing heavy bag, find a good, sturdy one.
I'm currently using this one:

So far, I love it.

CLFMak> how does that bag stand up to kicks?
Really need another banana bag but like to keep options open

Thank you CLFMak,

I'm not locked in on any particular model of bag yet, leaning towards a hanging heavy bag. That link was for the picture of what I was trying to describe. As I was researching the bag on the cheapestboxing website, I found it rather suspiscious that the description of the product was limited to \"stronger than leather\" and that they failed to list any materials or deminsions like other websites and models.

Thank you for the feedback in regards to Everlast vs Title and what I spend now vs what I may spend again in the future.

That heavy bag works OK against kicks, and actually works better sometimes. For example, the side kick is a common one used in sanshou, and is delivered at a slight upward angle to uproot the person (since chest protectors are worn, kicks that move people are preferrable to those that just hurt). The surface works well for this. I dislike it for knees. It has a ring at the bottom so you can bungee it to a base, but with a hard kick it can pull the base even if covered with weights. I kind of like it without the ground attachment, but I have some ideas in the works. Overall, you can kick it, but I find it to be better for punching, foarearm elbows etc. A banana bag is probably a better tool if you really like kicking (my school has some good equipment for kicking, so I don't mind having a specialized punching bag). I've noticed that after lots of work on it, hitting a regular heavy bag feels kind of odd.
