Pete, Paragon - Welcome people! Oh, you WILL find pain in spots you never knew about
I took KM 1 last night. We were doing Palm Strikes with the tombstone. I'm pretty sure my partner was new since after I did my round of palm strikes, she had to go barf.. I felt bad for her but hey, gotta train like I fight, right? :D
Hubby says my palm strikes are devastating..I love those way better than punching :)

[quote:99b74e8b41=\"Paragon\"]Well, here's another new person.
I have been doing KM about a month here in Orlando, FL. Apparently, our school (which is a TK school) doesn't do belts or anything, but the workout is....fun.
I need to lose some weight, get stronger, and learn some self defense to go along with my firearms training. That's my goal.
And CJ's Dad--don't I know you from somewhere else on the web? Disney maybe?[/quote:99b74e8b41]
We don't do belts so to speak at our TK school either but we do the levels.
Been doing it a little over a month now and the workout is a blast. Hard sometimes but a great sweat.
Always remember to bring your bucket :D

Thanks for the warm welcome. I did my first lvl 1 class tonite and I have to be honest..it kicked my ass. About 30 minutes in I got light headed and had to go hit the bathroom for a few lol. It was very fun though even if I couldnt finish. I will be back for round 2 on Saturday though. :)
Gotta start somewhere.

Thanks for the encouragement Sean. The instructors and my classmates were absolutely awesome. I am sure it will only get better..especially once I get into better shape. I was able to watch a few other classes and I was absolutely impressed with both the style and precision that the training was taught and executed.
I can't say enough good things about my first experience and I would recommend it to anyone.

Hey everybody,
I'd just like to introduce myself. My name is Andrew, and I started Krav about 3 months ago, and I've fallen in love with it. I'm a bit of an addict (i go practiclally everyday after school, homework permiting). I go to a pretty rough school, (i live on Oakland so I go to school there) and it's nice knowing if someone attacked me because I accedentaly stepped on there shoe or something (i've seen people get beat up for less) I could protect myself. Its helped my confidence imensially and it's great conditioning for my sports. Its helped my school work as well. If I can take chokes and holds from people who are much bigger and stronger than myself (i'm the only kid in the classes) then studying for test doesn't seem so bad. I actually train at a studio in Berkeley. On november 10th, a guy named Eyal Yanilov is coming in to tach a five hour seminar. Apparently he is the head of the IKMF. I know the IKMF and KMWW are different, but i was wondering if anyone has meet him, and if so i was just wondering what type of guy he was. I know he trained with IMI, so i'm pretty excited. Anyways, I just join this site 2day, so i'd just though I'd drop by and say hi.
Greetings from Northern California,
Andrew

Wow thatís a great endorsement thank you for sharing it.
Iíve never met Eyal but Iíve heard nothing but good things about him from those who have. Its rare that he comes out to the west coast so you have a great opportunity.
Welcome to the forums~

Yes, Eyal is very nice and an excellent instructor. I've met him twice during a seminar and it was definitely worth coming to.
Welcome to the forum!

Another green one
Whassup, everybody? I'm Jonathan and started Krav Maga in July, but I was not aware of this Web site until today! I'm glad I found it!
I'm 22, I'm from Maryland, I go to (and soon graduating from) University of Maryland-College Park, and my background is 16 years in Tae Kwon Do. I've experimented with other martial arts, but Krav Maga seems like the fighting/self-defense system I want to stick to the most. Every time I'm in class, I get my butt kicked and I'm loving every moment of it!

haha - I know what you mean, I've got all kindsa bumps and bruises and my friends will say \"OMG, that's horrible!\" In which I reply What are you talking about, IT'S GRRRRREAT!
And I don't know if it's because it's only my first week or what but when I tell people \"Can you REALLY choke me? I mean really really try?\" they look at me funny, or when I tell them \"You know it's ok, you can go full force on the pad, don't worry about it\"

Oh yeah, I had one newbie I did choke from behind against the wall with. I hadn't been there in a bit and our instructor Pete decided I needed a good choking so he made sure to tell him \"No, don't choke her like that, like THIS'. Not only choked but my face nice and squished  .
HA! I still got out  . Another one I left bruises on her that took over a week to go away..oops..
They also look at me when I say go hard and kick. I wear a cup too so it doesn't bother me. Out there I hopefully won't let anyone get that close :D

Hey all,
My name is John and my wife and I have been ;earning KM for just ablout 1 1/2 months now. we are training at Ultmia Self Defense & Fitness in Tucson, AZ. It's the best time I've ever had. I've had martial arts training the past, but it's been some time since being active in any training.
I started doing research on KM after seeing the movie"Enough" with Jennifer Lopez. I drove by Ultima one weekend, found their website and decided to stop by; we picked up some brouchers and started our training the next weekend. I felt KM would help me most being in the military, but not only protecting myself but my family as well.
This is my first day on the forum and haven't really checked it out other than reading this thread and posting this message.

Ain't that the truth, it makes life so much easier when you have built in therapy, plus you never have to worry about trying to find a training partner for those after class sessions.

Only thing I've found though and please don't take this wrong is this - Don't get used to each other as training partners. Y'all are still early in training but when you take class together, don't always be each other's partners. Hubby and I did that and while it worked great doing Level 1 and 2 it seemed, we found later over time we got too comfortable and too predictable with each other. We didn't NOT try to beat up each other but I think subconsciously we started predicting each other's moves.
For testing though, I've always tested with hubby and we got each other through 2 tests together. In that regard, I WILL have hubby by my side no matter what:)

The only practice we have together is at and at a very slow tempo as to not inflict any unnecessary injuries (since we are new). She works days and I work nights so during the week we attend different classes. Which sometimes leads to learning different techniques at different times depending on who is instructing what class.
The few times we have been in the same class we have never been partners.

Another noob...
My name is Chris and I started Krav here in Puyallup, Wa in late June. I love it! I'm currently stationed at McChord AFB, and had wanted to try Krav for about 6 years, but spent 180-300 days a year TDY or deployed so I waited until I got a stable job here to start. Wish I was doing this 6 years ago!
I mix my week with that, PT, Crossfit, and a little Bas Rutten here and there. I'd really like to start getting more serious with it now, and though I've been browsing the forums for a while, I'll probably continue to browse before I do much posting.
Thanks!
Chris

Hi Chris,
Just some gee whiz! I used to live in South Hill Puyallop. Retired from Mchord AFB in December 1986. I was the Aircraft Maintenance Supertendent in the 62 OMS when I retired. I also spent a tour with the fighter squadron in the 70's. (The 318th, wasn't it?)
Good luck in your training.

Well, it sounds like I gotta combo of BradM and CJs dad in me! I came in with aspirations of being a PJ during 9/11, but a medical snafu landed me in Acft maintenance. I'm a Flying Crew Chief ("flight mechanic") on the C17, and pretty much spent most of my time between the Middle East and Antarctica. I actually kept more of my gear and personnal belongings in Germany and Turkey than I did here! lol
And yes, basic at Lackland is an absolute cake walk. I think I lost more muscle and endurnace in basic than I gained. I couldn't believe the guys cryin and wanting out or faking injuries! Most of them were fresh from high school and probably never left the house though.

Are the active duty or ARTS? I assume ARTS since they've been there so long. So you're a C-17 guy - how do you like it. When I retired from the Air Force in December 1986, I went to work for McDonnell Douglas as a Senior Logistics Engineer and Maintainability Engineer. I developed maintenance procedures for the TOD on the C-17. At first I was assigned to Missions Systems (rails, doors. etc.). Had a lot of problems to iron out in that system. I don't know if they ever got totally "maintenance friendly" after I left. I also done some hydraulic system work. I was only on the C-17 for a year or so, then went over to the commercial side (MD-11), more $$$. I eventually ended up with Lockheed in Marietta, GA on the the F-22.

Civvies and ARTs...George Graham, Larry Daughtry, Gary Davis, Will Thompson, Bob Ackerman and Dave McCarroll are the first that came to mind. I'm sure if I set down and thought about it, there'd be more.
C17s aren't bad. They're relatively Mx friendly and you really don't get to dirty wrenchin on them. They have a few flaws and the integral jacking system needed to change a tire kinda sucks, but they're reliable as a brick, fun to ride in and they're always doing block upgrades fixing items Boeing deems necessary.

The names don't ring a bell. But, remember, I retired from the AF just over 20 years ago. I'm glad the C-17 is Mx friendly. I know I and many other maintainability and logistics engineers constantly pounded on the design engineers to make design changes for the better.

Wow, I've been logging in and viewing the instructor info but some how skipped the forum. Well a bit of an intro, I am in the USAF, currently a HAZMAT instructor. Just got certified as a Krav Maga L.E. and Military instructor in Sept. Been teaching my fellow troops and it's going great. Looking to branch out to the S.A. area and get certified to teach the civilian aspect of Krav Maga.
