Krav and Pregnancy
How many of you women out there have done Krav through your pregnancy? Just curious.

Re: Krav and Pregnancy
I looked like I was in my second trimester when I started Krav Maga...
Quite seriously, I don't know that I'd want a woman who is pregnant in one of my classes. I feel that the danger of incidental contact would far outweigh the benefits of training.
I would urge any pregnant woman who wanted to keep training to speak with her doctor and see if participation in a fitness class would be appropriate. Also, I'd really stress that she modify any and all techniques as needed and to rest whenever she felt that she should.

Re: Krav and Pregnancy
I dunno how you could train while pregnant. Other than taking Core Mix (yoga and pilates), the other classes to me would be just too risky.

Re: Krav and Pregnancy
My wife took class through the first 4 months or so, until the belly started to get in the way of the kicks. Even after that, she kept up with the Bas cd. She tested for green when our third boy was 3 or four months old. There's no tolerating slackers in the Stafford compound!

Re: Krav and Pregnancy
I guess you could do things such as hitting the bag, or maybe focus mitts, things that don't require much contact. Maybe KM defenses very slowly. But accidents happen and even things such as holding a kicking shield for a partner (even to the side), can shake you up pretty much. A knee could land during a defense... I don't know, sounds pretty risky. Maybe just train on your own, with a friend/husband or so, which would be more controlled...

I don't think I have ever gotten pregnant during a class, so that's good!

Re: Krav and Pregnancy
I can think of at least one LA student who trained pregnant--I think she trained until she ran out of people to partner with her. Tested for green belt pregnant too, if I recall correctly.
Of course, her three kids are students, and one of them is an instructor now.

Re: Krav and Pregnancy
Testing while pregnant? What about the sparring portion? So if you were fighting a pregnant woman, would this count as fighting multiple opponents, as she would have an extra little person kicking inside the womb?

Interesting... my husband and I train together so I wonder if we just partnered up all the time, then it might work out. I don't need to worry about it right now anyhow...

Re: Krav and Pregnancy
I think it's a fair question. Never been pregnant myself, but I hear some of those little ones can kick pretty hard.... ;)

Re: Krav and Pregnancy
As my husband mentioned in another post, I trained until I was almost 5 months pregnant. My doctor said that since I have been training in Krav for 2 years prior to my pregnancy that my body was familiar with it and that I would be OK to continue to train. Of Course I didn't fight and I also wouldn't hold any of the bags. I worked in with a threesome and took it very easy.
I had no problems.

Thanks for the response. I did talk to my instructor about it and I'm feeling a lot more confident that I'll be able to continue my training.

Re: Krav and Pregnancy
I have a student who was training while being pregnant. She came to training on thursday, give birth on sunday, and was back training monday a week later.. Needless to say she is testing for G5 very soon..
And it was her 3rd child so she knew her own body rather well. She did most of the stuff in trainig but was walking around with a thai belly pad for much of the time..
Mightbe not reccomended, but then again we vikings are a little, ehh, different.. :)
