Deadliest Warrior
Ah, thanks to hubby I have a new show to look forward to every week. If you liked Fight Science, take that, Ancient History and seriously turn up the juice!
This is showing on spike TV - the one I saw was Apache vs Gladiator. Oh man this is so cool! Basically, weapons and strategies of each was tested and then all results are fed into a computer simulator to see who the deadliest warrior is. I won't spoil the end of this one for you - take a look! You can view the whole episode on Spike's website
http://www.spike.com/show/31082?refs...kdes=NET_spike
Next week - Samurai vs Viking!

Re: Deadliest Warrior
Kevin Lewis is the world's deadliest warrior, everyone knows that. You notice how there are no more Vikings or Samurai? That's because Lewis vacationed in Japan and Norway.

Re: Deadliest Warrior
SO and I sat down and watch this as well. Thanks to a total screw up at work/school, I didn't get to watch much of it before my meds kicked in. (Hydrocodone can be a wonderful thing). I did make SO record it so I am going to turn that on right now! Thanks for reminding me!!!

Re: Deadliest Warrior
I watched that show this afternoon via the internet! (".. it was supposed to help researchers at different universities share data sets. It was!").
I liked the show and thought it was interesting.
I wondered about their match up. Gladiators were not soldiers and their weapons were not designed not just for killing, but also for the "show" aspect.
I thought the trash talking between the teams was amusing.
If you were comparing "apples to apples" so to speak, would not you compare Apache to Ninja?
Next week is Viking vs. Samurai.

Re: Deadliest Warrior
Wow, They are taking actual history characters into the battlefield! :D I like that.
I would love to see Miyamoto Musashi VS Acolmiztli Yoyotzin Nezahualcoyotl
The first one, probably the greatest swordsman and samurai who ever lived, never deafeated (In a duel)
The second one, Texcoco's greatest King, Conqueror of many provinces in ancient MÈxico, never defeated or even wounded. (I'll bet on him, sorry musashi, national pride above everything xD)
Unfortunately that would never happen....even on a TV show....

That would have been cool and it would've made more sense. But then again, it's also interesting to see how two different warriors would do against each other, not just similar warriors. Still, a very interesting show.
Green Beret vs Spetznaz? Nice! I hope there'll be a season two, because there are some notable omissions, like Romans, Persians, Mongols, Chinese.
Why don't we make our own match-ups? What would you like to see?

Re: Deadliest Warrior
This week was Samurai vs. Viking.
I liked it. I thought this match up was better than last week's.
The web interface is to view it is a little sucky. Tip, don't try to rewind! I tried to flip back to check a part of the narrative I missed and I could not get it to start again. I had to restart it from the beginning and just let it play.
Next week in Ninja vs Spartan.

Re: Deadliest Warrior
I don't like the computer fighting model that they use. I believe it's the same guy that used to do similar fighting models between animals (lion vs. tiger) etc. Both with the apache against gladiator and samurai against Viking they engineered scenarios where the gladiator and Viking couldn't win. I don't believe anybody could stand toe to toe with a Viking. They dominated Europe beating Huns, Goths, Saxons, and Romans etc for 900 years. Both the apache and the samurai ran away after there initial failure to kill at a long distance. Gladiator can't run since it's in an enclosed arena and the Viking can't run because he'll lose control of his boat and never go home. They can't program motivation and desire. If they'd come up with a better pairing, I'd be happier.

I think the "science" behind this show is complete, utter, 100% pure unadulterated BS. Jurassic Park was more factually accurate.
That being said, I take the program for what it is - entertainment. And I plan on enjoying it every week. Spartans FTW!!

Listening to them talk about the "factors" to program in, I think program is like some sort of "Dungeons & Dragons" on some mild nutritional supplements.
I don't put much faith their dice rolling, but the show is entertaining as DevilNuts says.
I think all the weapons tests with the ballistic gel dummy and the accelerometers and the other things they dream up is the interesting part.
I wonder if they will have elimination rounds and get down to "the final 4"!

I think the "trash" talking is amusing. You have to take the show with a grain of salt.
There is no way the nerdy little dice roll program is going to accurately determine anything, but it does start interesting conversations.

I can tell you how to make fake blood and ballistics gel. I know one of the scientists behind the scenes for this (I took his class in criminalistics at UW-Go Dawgs). And I get to work with this stuff everyday. I love my job.
