HISTORY Pankration is one of the oldest Martial arts and Combative sports on record. Pankration began in the ancient Greek Olympic Games. The rules were simple, no biting or eye gouging and the referees enforced their rules with a large stick. The Pankration was the most highly regarded event of the Olympic games. Competitors struggled and strategized with no time limits until one man became the victor and was awarded the coveted crown of olive branches on the final day of the ancient games. TODAY Pankration is a combination of other Combative Sports such as Karate, Wrestling, Judo and Jiu-jitsu. Tournaments emphasize safety and sportsmanship, suitable for competitors of all ages from all styles of Martial Art. Our athletes have an opportunity to compete at the Local, State, National and World Level. FILA Wrestling is the International Governing Body for Pankration and represents the sport in all Olympic matters. The USA Federation of Pankration Athlima is the United States representative to the World Pankration Committee and FILA. The Amateur Pankration League is the largest League in the United States and falls under the US Federation, World Committee and FILA. Together, our goal is Pankration re-instated to the Olympic Games. |
