Krav Maga Worldwide Instructor Featured In The Shooting Times: Book of Personal Defense

Krav Maga Worldwide Licensee/Instructor Jeremy Stafford writes a compelling article in the “The Shooting Times: Book of Personal Defense” titled “Train Like Your Life Depends On It.”

Train Like Your Life Depends On It, by Jeremy Stafford, is a compelling article on the importance of applying controlled stress to your training by using the Krav Maga philosophy of training from a position of disadvantage. When viewed as a principle, training from a position of disadvantage can be applied to virtually any skillset that you would be required to perform in a life or death situation.

Pick up your copy on newsstands now!

The article shows drills (featuring Krav Maga Worldwide Instructors Christian Medina and Dan Sovetky) for applying stress and realism to training with a firearm, a knife and bare hands. Not only is this type of stress based training effective for the actual physical skillsets themselves, but when consciously applied as the backbone of any training program, training from a position of disadvantage allows for the gradual conditioning of the mind, making responses to threats come much more dynamically than they otherwise would. Jeremy is a Marine Corps Combat Veteran, a decorated Los Angeles Police Officer, and the Lead Instructor for Simi Valley Krav Maga.

KMW Instructors Karla Nystrom and Kristine Ho in a new commercial for Almay Pure Blends Makeup

AlmayWe need your help! VOTE NOW!

Visit current.com to watch the new Krav Maga commercial for Almay Pure Blends Makeup featuring KMW Instructors Karla Nystrom and Kristine Ho. Vote now! The commercial that wins the most votes will be featured on Current TV and possibly on a national ad campaign for Almay.

The spot was produced by our good friends at Ova Productions and was written and directed by Everlyn Hunter. The inspiration for the commercial, according to Everlyn, was none other than Quentin Tarantino’s “Kill Bill” series. This creative commercial stars KMW Instructor and Licensing Director Karla Nystrom and features fellow female instructor Kristine Ho.

The choice to feature KMW’s female instructors was easy: “This [commercial] is about an independent woman’s self-confident movement through her world – unafraid of things that go bump in the night. This is the type of woman who uses Almay Pure Blends makeup” and “it associates Almay’s slogan of no compromises with a positive perspective about women’s strength,” says Everlyn.

Darren Levine’s Black Belt Magazine Interview Part 2

Black Belt MagazineKrav Maga Worldwide Chief Instructor Darren Levine in the May 2009 issue of Black Belt Magazine (part 2 of his exclusive interview).

“Our goal is to quickly end the threat and regain control by neutralizing the assailant before he’s able to inflict injury. Krav maga is designed so operators can successfully perform defenses from diverse positions of disadvantage, from varying degrees of readiness and while under stress.” – Darren Levine

What is the krav maga approach to self-defense?

“One of Imi’s favorite sayings was, ‘Krav maga doesn’t have any rules except for one: Don’t get hurt.’

People hear that and think it was just a glib statement, but it’s deeper and more meaningful than that. It doesn’t matter how strong your counterattack is if you haven’t taken care of the primary danger. What he was saying is, if someone is choking you or trying to stab you, if you can’t initially break the choke or stop the knife, you’ll get hurt. You always have to think, eliminate the danger.

Some people think of danger on only one level, but there’s also secondary and tertiary danger. Imi’s message, to me, was to take care of the immediate danger, then take care of the person who’s the source of it. If I can pick up something-maybe a chair, a purse, or a plate, anything-I’ll use it. I don’t want to make the fight fair. If someone attacks me, I’ll use everything at my disposal to win. I didn’t start the fight, but I’m going to finish it so I can go home to my children.” – Darren Levine
