and threatened your instructor, would you attack them? In movies you see guys run into some martial arts class and get attacked. dumb idea
March 22, 2006 at 5:16 pm #45654markx3MemberSeveral people in my gym are always armed. So whoever ran in and caused trouble would have picked the wrong gym.
😈
March 22, 2006 at 5:23 pm #45655garddawgMemberWe’ve had a couple come in and throw down when we first opened up. Bad idea. Doesn’t happen anymore.
March 22, 2006 at 5:35 pm #45656noonianMemberSure it’s a dumb idea. Honestly. Why would you do that if you’re not suicidal or into sadomasochism….. 😉
But would I attack him if he threatens my instructor?? Nooow, that thought needs some exploration:
– Who is my instructor? The guy I like? Sure I help him!! 😀
– But wait: he might be better off if I don’t interfere, given that he is, like, SO much better in Krav. 😳
– But wait again: he just might need my embarrassing little try of an attack as a diversion 😉
– So what do I do??? Maybe I’ll just wait how things turn out, as I don’t have a weapon with me (besides my cute little hands and short legs) and leave the first round of attack to people like markx3, who know what they’re doing!! 😉
– Or is my instructor the guy I don’t like? Than I’d just enjoy…………
……how he kicks their ass nonetheless and beats the hell out of them. Then we’d go back to daily routine and continue the focus mitts work. 😀
March 22, 2006 at 5:36 pm #45657dakiMemberMy first reaction to even the idea of something like that happening is: \”No one could be THAT stupid.\”
Then I remember how many people I’ve met who are lacking common sense and suddenly I can see it happening. Course, I think our instructors would probably tell us to stand aside so they can deal with it themselves.
March 22, 2006 at 6:18 pm #45658kravronMemberUnlike some…I have been my instructors \”Demonstration Dummy\” many a times. He is small…he is short…but I would enjoy watching someone attack him. It would be like watching a chuck norris film.
March 22, 2006 at 6:25 pm #45659jjbklbMemberA little more likely senario would be someone coming in to rip-off valuable in the changing room.
One gym that I used to go to (that had some hard-core fitness fanatics there) was hit several times.they’d come in with bolt-cutters,cut the locks off the lockers & steal the wallets, watches, etc.
March 22, 2006 at 9:21 pm #45660clfmakMemberThere’s been a few downright crazy people over the years, and the bank by the school gets robbed from time to time, but there’s not real challenges. However, there are some ill willed people from time to time. They come from certain other schools and act like they are interested in being a student and try and talk the instructors into holes. Or they try to get our students to join over there. It comes down to a sort of lineage war. There’s been some dramatic moments and there’s certain characters we look for. Seriously, sometimes its like the dumb arguments you hear online in martial arts forums. Basically that’s why I only post here- there’s little argument over tradition, and not the pompous MMA attitude you find on some other sites.
March 22, 2006 at 9:52 pm #45662raving-sultanMemberI agree with most I read here. I guess I meant if you are in a training environment and an threatening outsider was present, would you attack on order of your instructor?
March 22, 2006 at 9:58 pm #45664garddawgMemberI’m hoping the answers will be No.
March 22, 2006 at 10:11 pm #45666lazloMemberNo, I hope I’ll assess the situation for myself and help and defend as needed. Commanded by my instructor? I hope not, but it’s easy to say.. I just saw something about the \”milgram experiments\” and that sure was scary- believe me you!
March 22, 2006 at 10:27 pm #45667anonymousMemberJohn, don’t you worry, I got your back!! 😀
Okay, so if he was just threatened one should probably wait and see if he’s going to be attacked or not. The instructor should be able to handle himself well, but if, let’s say, a bunch of guys were to attack and the instructor can’t deal with them all, sure you should jump in. That would be kind of embarrassing if we were in Level 5, working on third party defenses, and suddenly a bunch of people came in and tried to beat the instructor to a bloody pulp and none of us would do anything. What would that say about Krav Maga? I mean, you big guys go call 911, I’ll be taking them down!! 😈 Brent, you can sleep safer tonight…. 8) And Darren… oh, well, if Darren were attacked we better all just move to the side and give him some room to operate and then enjoy the show… 😉 😆
March 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #45683emilMemberThankfully our school employs a cadre of ninjas just for cases like this. Whenever someone attacks us, we just hit a special button and a bunch of ninjas emerge from behind sliding screen doors. Although we’re trying to get them to stop attacking one by one. So far, we’ve had no problems with not being able to defeat dojo stormers, between the shuriken and the rack of spears by the wall in JCC, most stormers are deterred.
March 23, 2006 at 4:19 pm #45684dkstMemberWhat I was wondering is a bit different but on the same line of attck. What would you do if your partner (newbie) hit you. I mean, what if you could tell he wasn’t really doing the drill but really trying to hit you. I’ve seen upper levels hit lower levels, but only after being hit. Not to hurt but more or less to say, control yourself or I’ll hit you too. But what if a new guy connects with a punch and then another? Do you cover up or do you retaliate.
I’ve seen some new people get pissed from getting grabbed for knees (they don’t understand). I could just imagen someone getting pissed and trying to start a fight. I guess at what point do you switch from training to defense?
March 23, 2006 at 4:21 pm #45686andreMemberThat wouldn’t be the Staples \”Easy Button\” would it 😉
