The Use of Common Objects as Shields

When using common objects as shields, often the objects available provide coverage due to surface area and/or structural integrity. However, such objects are rarely beneficial as striking implements because of the lack of hard surfaces or the unwieldy size. In these cases, once the initial defenses are made, the shield should be abandoned in favor of personal weapons or escape.
