Anybody recognize or know what style is used in the movie “Taken”? Looked like a bunch of different styles to me. Made me think of Krav in some scenes.

The action went pretty fast, but my guess is that much of it was Kuntao/Silat, judging from the extremely close in fighting, the use of elbows and open hand blows, the knees, and the lack of kicks above the thighs.
I need to watch it again, though.Re: Taken
I definitely agree with the need to see it again. It will definitely be an addition to my DVD collection.

A friend of mine recommended this to me as he reckons it has krav in it but I think he just tends to mentally label anything brutal as km since i started it.

Just watched – liked it. Action is pretty fast, hard to tell what style the main character used. The first knife defense (from a stabbing motion) looked similar to Krav, not sure about the follow-up disarm. A few gun disarms looked familiar, but darn too fast to tell exactly! Overall the movie was fast-paced, “in your face” sort of way, but the story is righteous, no PC in the story. The spades are called spades, so to speak. Typical (to the genre) one shot-one kill situations for the good guy, while the bad guys can’t shoot straight. All that being said, the movie made me want to train more and harder – that’s number one. Number two, it made me somewhat paranoid and aware.

he also studied boxing as a teenager.it is an enjoyable movie to watch.

That seems weird. I never thought Parkour was a martial art. More of a sport. If anyone doesn’t know what Parkour is go rent the movie District b-13. Or google it. Or just Google David Belle the creator of Parkour. It seems more stunt like stuff then any fighting stuff. Do u have the link to the interview?

yeah, parkour is another term for free running, those guys you see running, jumping and climbing across rooftops over walls and all through public urban and metropolitan areas like it’s their own personal playground a set of monkey bars or a swing set…getting to be a popular chase style in the movies….
