so..someone broke into my car and the only thing they stole was my two pairs of Krav Maga brand boxing gloves that I had in the trunk.
    wtf?
I mean..this really hurts me as I am now gloveless and cant afford new gloves…but of what use are they to the random thief? Was I robbed by an old light heavyweight champ who is down on his luck?

    Re: Thieves are strange

Yes they are. I had a bike stollen about 3 years ago.

I had 2 bikes on the bike rack of my mini-van. There was a sweet steel frame bike with 3×9 gearing, sram twist grip shifers, coolio eggbeater pedals, and a Manitou front shock. The other bike was a old beat up Schwin ridgid fork, fixed up to be a single speed.

Guess which bike got stollen — the old beat up single speed! They even had to take off the sweet steel frame throw it to the ground, and then take the beat up single speed!

Russell’s story reminded me of this one:

Karate school robbery leaves thief hospitalized
    AFP
    Published: Friday September 7, 2007

A feckless stick-up man chose the wrong target when he was beaten and hospitalized in an attempted robbery of a karate school in Bucaramanga in northwestern Colombia, police said.

“The man entered the academy with a firearm, but could not intimidate the dozens of students, who fortunately reacted and disarmed him,” said Colonel Julio Cesar Santoyo, police commander in the province of Santander.

Police arrived at the scene only to take the would-be robber to hospital for treatment of multiple contusions at the hands of the karate students.

    Re: Thieves are strange

You guys gotta remember that many people who are reduced to thievary do so b/c of substance abuse or psychological disorders. It, therefore, doesn’t surprise me when they do acts of seemingly horrible stupidity bordered on mental retardation! lol…
And yes, some are just plaiiiin stupid.
Reminds me of a story of a mob in Israel that decided to steal armament from a military base and sell it in the black market… what was their target? You guessed it, the main military base for Shayetet 13 (Equivalent of the Navy Seals)… They were lucky all they got out with was dog bites and a couple of non-lethal gunshots to the legs… ohhhh the stupidity…!

Oddly enough, I just had lunch with a friend whose car was broken into – they passed up the wii, ps3, about $800 in games and his laptop (he does video game reviews) and took his radar detector and about $1.50 in change.

One of our favorite sayings in law enforcement goes like this:

If the bad guys were smarter, the job would be harder.

Sorry that this happened to you, Kevin. I just hate me a thief!!!

Are there any gums in the immediate area of where your car was parked, esp.one that offers boxing or punching bags.
Wouldn’t hurt to tell the manager to keep a ‘heads up’ for someone using the glooves,if they have the word Krav Maga on them.

If there is a bulletin board there, post a note discribing the stolen glooves.

its also funny that they took the two pairs of gloves which must have been awkward to carry..but left the gear bag which was filled with other goodies like sticks, rubber guns and knifes and focus mitts.

    Re: Thieves are strange

The thieves that steal the bikes and gloves are not stupid. They steal nondescript, very general items. Selling in a black market or pawn shot requires that identity remain concealed. If you were to talk into a pawn shop with a sweet looking bike that is obviously high dollar and try to pass it off that you are just getting rid of it then you are going to be burned into the mental image of that pawn shop clerk. As well as photo ID and such.

Rather, if you take a worn down looking bike into a pawn shop and pass it off as out with the old bike and in with the new. Smooth sailing.

That’s how we catch most of the meth heads out here in the boon docks. Lacking any real experience with stealing and dealing, they’ll take my $1,500 tiller and try to sell it to the local garage. In two seconds Bubba is on the phone telling me he has my tiller and Jim-Bob is sitting on the meth head until the cops show up.

    Re: Thieves are strange

Here’s my dumbest Criminal EVER story….

Christmas 2001… I went into a restaurant with a friend of mine. Unfortunately, he forgot to hold up the handle on the door as he shut it (the Japanese handshake) and so the door was left unlocked.

The thief opened the door to the truck and took the following.

Several self help books on sexual addiction (my friend’s field of study).

An old pair of socks. They were thick and wool and I loved them but seriously, USED SOCKS?

Some… not all… but SOME of my CDs… This wouldn’t surprise me but the ones they chose to take makes all the difference.

They left behind anything top 40 or Pop-ish and took off with…

THE GRATEFUL DEAD and WILLIE NELSON!!!

The Dead?!?! Seriously?? As a hippie I think I’m required to give away a Dead CD upon request. Who steals a Dead CD? And Willie? The blue eyed stranger? What kind of thief listens to Willie? rofl2

    Ha!!!!

When I worked in Oakland as a Loss Prevention agent I was escorting a manager to her car. As we approached I noticed movement from inside the vehicle. As I pulled out my flashlight and side arm (in those days we were allowed to carry on duty) the thief who was in the car looked at me and said “I didn’t do it, I didn’t do it.” Here this A-hole was, sitting in the car going through the mangers things all the while claiming to be innocent! Unreal!
