    …that we incorporated today.

Instead of standard jumping jacks,we went to squat jumping jacks.Go into a squat as your feet went out.At speed, you really get a quad burn.

    The other was Moving Push-ups.
After doing a standard push-up,move your left hand toward your right hand. Then bring your left leg toward your right leg.Move your right hand out, followed by your right leg.Do a standard push-up.

Continue across the room that way, then work your way back to your original position.

We do those pushups, but not the jumping jacks.

For you more advanced/fit guys/gals, try doing the moving pushups with your feet up on a wall, aka “wall walking”. 😉

Another warm up activity I “borrowed” from one of our sister training units – pool noodle melee. Acquire some cheap pool noodles, cut them in half (each length will probably be between 24-32″ or so depending on initial size – pool noodles are not made to a standard length), arm each student with a cut pool noodle and have at it. You can do individual (everyone against everyone), teams, formations, etc. You can establish a set period or intervals of beatings & rest. You set allowable striking areas on the head/body and whatever other rules. You can mix it up by forcing students to use their “retarded” hands or having a “baton” in each hand. The goal is to hit (repeatedly) others while not getting hit yourself, especially trying to hit opponents from behind or in their blind spots – discourage exchanges where the students just stand there trading blows. There should be a LOT of movement, huffing/puffing, laughing, whacking, etc going on… If/when someone drops a noodle, he/she should be beat on by Everyone else until he/she recovers it… haha :Deadhorse:
