Ok, I’ll see your disagreement and disagree with your disagreeing with my disagreement. 😛

Hey hey, is that a poker face staring back at me? 😆

V, I’ve been in a few unprovoked fights, and they weren’t anything like sparring in class. Not only was there no time to pick and choose ideal weapon to match perfect target (ie, instructor sayz, \”don’t apply fist to skull, throw knee or elbow instead.\”), I didn’t even have time to be scared shitless until the whole mess was over (yes, I’m a nancy-boy when free of time constraints). From what I’ve read, this is more common than not.

As for the idf using krav, aside from the occasional pluck and knee, I’d say they probably use kung-m16 for their primary self-defense, dude.

Oooo… ok.. I see some problems with this statement. No time to pick and choose ideal weapon to match target? That makes it sound like you turn into a windmill of blind strikes. I’ve never been in a ring, most of my fights have taken place outside the front door of bars lol.

Having said that, I act and react to the situation, firing on selected targets. Granted there’s little time to *think* about what would be better… which is why you train. Similar to military battle drills: it’s so in a combat situation you simply react without thought. Face shot…. boom with a heavy right cross. Head moves downward, knee tracks it to a meeting point. They come for a take down… legs shoot back for sprawl.

Sorry, i simply reject the notion it’s impossible to make use of a closed fist in non-glove situations. To my repertoire , I now have elbows and knees. Even more reason to stick with what has worked for me in the past. 😉

Here’s a vid of a \”street fighter\” vs someone trained in boxing. The guy in black shirt is the boxer. Notice all the misses and wild punches thrown by the guy in tanktop. Train, target, let them gas.

But this is really off topic. You’re an advocate of not using wraps, but that’s also because you favor the palm heel strike. I wouldn’t wear wraps or gloves if i only used open hand strikes…. so the question now is: Do you recommend gloves/wraps for people training on the heavybag/punchpads who ARE using a closed fist? Your argument here isn’t so much about to wrap or not to wrap… it’s to get Krav Maga to stop using closed fists. And before you go trying to change the program… I have to say I think it’s fine as it is. Just wrap or glove before class so you don’t bloody up the punch pads. 😀

Hey hey, take it easy, fella!
I ain’t talking about changing no system, lolz. This topic is like an onion and could be peeled to no end, but going back to my orinigal post… yes, I think at least some work without wraps and gloves is in order if you ARE to use fists, is what I’m saying…because preparation is everything and an untested tool is a tool that may fail you at the moment you need it most. Wow, poetic, no? 8)

But, moving on to palm vs fist, take the lady with the nails in your class, her only real hope for an effective hand strike IS the palmheel, right? But, wrap her up and strap on them gloves, and she’s sparring you with the hope of doing same with a real attacker. Tsk tsk tsk, not good self-defense training, especially when she could use them claws as weapons while palm-heel bashing some rapist fucker. She’d be better off training to be like wolverine, haha. Can you imagine the devastation she could bestow on a dude’s face if she trained a few months on that alone, putting it into muscle memory? Just thinking out loud here. 😉 She could even work in some howl or something to scare the bejezus out of her attacker, can you imagine, haha?

Oh yeh, about that vid you posted, I don’t train for that type of fight. I ain’t gonna be fist fighting anybody…I’d sooner apologize and walk away coz a, I’m a pussyboy, and b, I have too much to lose to *intentially* get into shit like that.

Nope, what I train for is when I’m walking to my car downtown at midnight after getting off work, and getting jumped by some mugger or whatever. Ever been thru that kind of experience, when you don’t have time to size up your opponent and come up with a rudimentary battle plan? Fighting that off ain’t anything like bare-fist sparring outside of a bar, I could tell you that from first-hand experience….I was the mugger.

    No, haha, just kidding. 😆

Even with appropriate wrapping techniques, I have a tough time keeping them on … They tend to unravel after a few punches. I prefer grappling gloves with wrist support, and wraps under boxing gloves for wrist support while sparring.
