joel ellenbecker
deputy chief instructor - Licensing Division
Joel Ellenbecker serves as Deputy Chief Instructor of the Licensing Division for Krav Maga Worldwide, where he focuses on strengthening, supporting, and advancing the global network of Krav Maga Worldwide licensees.
Joel’s progression through the Krav Maga system was marked by uncommon intensity and discipline. Achieving the rank of 3rd Degree Black Belt (3rd Dan) in just 13 years— a pace rarely seen within the organization— he demonstrated both technical aptitude and a deep understanding of system architecture. His early martial arts foundation in full-contact American Freestyle Karate cultivated an appreciation for efficiency, structure, and performance under pressure, qualities that aligned seamlessly with the disciplined logic of Krav Maga.
As the owner and Chief Instructor of Fortitude Krav Maga in Neenah, Wisconsin, Joel brings direct, real-world licensee experience into his leadership role. He understands firsthand the challenges, pressures, and strategic decisions required to build and sustain a successful Krav Maga school. Under his leadership, Fortitude Krav Maga transformed from a modest program of 50 students operating within rented space into an 5,500-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility serving over 300 active members in a city of 30,000. The business now supports 13 staff members, including three full-time positions— a testament to disciplined execution and community engagement.
Joel’s direct experience as a licensee uniquely positions him to understand and act on the systems, structures, and support mechanisms that most effectively serve Krav Maga Worldwide schools. His work within the Licensing Division is focused on strengthening communication between leadership and affiliates, refining development pathways, and ensuring that growth at the school level remains aligned with system standards.
In addition to his 3rd Degree Black Belt in Krav Maga, Joel holds a 5th Degree Black Belt in American Freestyle Karate, a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Team Vaghi, and a purple belt in Roufusport Kickboxing. He is also a certified KMW Civilian Law Enforcement Instructor and an accredited PN1 Nutrition Coach.
Joel joined the leadership team of Krav Maga Worldwide in January 2024 and has since played a central role in advancing initiatives designed to support instructors and licensees at every stage of development. His leadership reflects disciplined growth, operational credibility, and a clear understanding that the strength of the organization is inseparable from the strength of its schools.
As Deputy Chief Instructor of the Licensing Division, Joel represents execution, alignment, and forward momentum— ensuring that Krav Maga Worldwide’s licensees are equipped not only to teach the system effectively, but to build resilient and thriving communities around it.
