When you sign up for a self-defense school, you already know that you’ll be practicing kicks, punches, blocks, and other moves that could potentially save your life if you were ever violently attacked. However, there is a lot more to training than simply learning the moves. Taking part in other exercise regimens will vastly increase your chances of success.

You will benefit from learning Krav Maga even if you don’t also participate in training regimens, but if you work on improving all aspects of your body, mind, and overall health, your potential to improve will be maximized.

How Strength will Benefit You in Self-defense School

Learning how to hit and kick is important, but without also increasing your strength and flexibility, you won’t be able to make the most of each move. A lack of dedication to other areas of fitness will also increase your chances of getting injured during practice, especially if you don’t take the time to properly stretch and relax your body.

When it comes to increasing strength, other activities like CrossFit and weightlifting have a powerful effect. The more muscle you develop, the more force you will be able to throw into all of your moves. More muscle also means more padding on your body, offering an extra degree of protection against an attacker.

Women in Self-defense School: The Importance of Fitness

If you’re a petite woman, you may think that improving strength won’t prove to be useful. Actually, this idea couldn’t be further from the truth.

While size and strength are definitely related, even a very petite fighter can take out a larger opponent with enough strength and the right skills. Defensive moves are incredibly powerful, but they won’t necessarily stop an attack on the first try. You will need skills, strength, flexibility, and incredible endurance if you want the best chances of surviving an attack.
