Re: Krav noob in need of advice

OP, You absolutely did the right thing. I’m a school owner and if I had an Instructor that cost me multiple memberships, that person would be gone, no hesitation. You did that school owner a favor.

Re: I’m bored in Level 1- help!

You should have a discussion with your Instructor. The solution might be as easy as partnering you with a more advanced student, or maybe you are ready to move up. Or maybe (just maybe, I don’t know you) you really aren’t as ready as you think you are. The Instructor will know better than all of us! The yellow belt test is usually a good tool to see if you’ve got a handle on the material, as it forces you to perform under more stress and fatigue than a normal class. Good Luck to you.

    Re: Krav Maga reality show

That might just be the dumbest fuc king thing I’ve ever seen…. The little doughy instructor was making me laugh. Several minutes of my life I won’t get back.

    Re: Personal Protection Officer

There are numerous third party defenses for just about any weapon you can think of. Several are just applications of basic Krav defenses, some are third party specific. With the exception of gun defense while mounted, I can’t think of a single gun defense that redirects the gun upwards. Even with that defense, it’s more of an angle. One of the absolutes in Krav Maga is that the weapon is controlled, it is very difficult to control a weapon that is above your head.

Within the civilian system, third party defenses are usually taught after the basic weapons defenses, well into the Brown Belt level of training. In fact, they’re not even tested on until second dan Black. I train several bodyguards on a semi private basis and I work with a local bodyguard school occasionally, and I know I’m not the only one. Being that you are in the personal Protection industry, your best bet may be getting some private lessons from a highly ranked Civilian Practitioner or maybe even working with some experienced Force training guys. If you wait to see it in a regular class, it may be a long wait… Anyways, best of luck in your training. It will be a valuable tool for you.

    Re: Krav Levels/Rankings/Belts?

    quote KevinMack:

Whats worse is when students wear their belts but no gi pants. Belts with shorts do not go together. You wouldnt wear a necktie with a wifebeater tank top would you?

I have never looked at my studio as a place for fashion statements… taking your argument to the next level, I’m sure someone in Japan looks at people wearing gi pants and t-shirts while gnashing their teeth and wailing on about how no one would wear Converse and a Kimono. The belts are there for the students to have a physical symbol of their achievements and to allow Instructors to quickly segregate the students into groups. I could give a Sh!t less about how it looks, bro!

    Re: Issues with Knock Knees

Sometimes, taking a cheat step and “pre-loading” the knee can help. You may not be able to generate as much power as a full pivot, but you should still be able to make an effective strike.

    Re: new gun/knife disarms

There are so many fundamental errors with his “traditional” Krav defenses that it makes my head hurt. I’m just going to sit back and watch the Kevin Mack lose his mind…

    Re: Contrasting Krav and Aikido

Rolls are still a part of the KMW and KMA curriculums. The Police holds are also part of both organizations, although mostly relegated to the respective “force” curricula. I show my advanced students the holds, but just for enrichment, not as testable material.

Re: The Composition of Krav Maga

I’m pretty sure Imi had exposure to Judo and Aikido, perhaps KevinMack can bring a little more to the table there….

Recently I had the chance to look at the USMC Hand to Hand combat manual from 1938. The gun, stick and knife defenses were all amazingly similar to what we do in Krav Maga. I have to believe that Imi was corresponding with the luminaries of the day, such as Applegate and Fairbairn, and that there was cross pollination between Military and Police trainers of the time.

Re: is weight gain after testing normal?

    Hi KMG91,
It happened to me also, I noticed my body holding on to fluids and water weight for about a week after my last test, then it went down and stabilized. Hope this helps.

Re: level 1 vs level 2

    quote Sittingdog:

Is the level 1 vs level 2 anything besides a financial decision on behalf of the dojo? The only difference I can see is that the higher level classes only focus on technique, where as the “level 1” is a bit of movement then a proper workout then a few drills building up to some sort of stress drill. My question is the level system just a way to keep the fatties away from the higher skill guys?
I can’t see myself committing to 6 months of squaring off against house wives and people who nearly pass out from the more intense drills just to get into the biweekly “level 2” class which is where defense is actually taught. Krav Maga centers are very limited where I am, but do I have the basic format down or any other options? I want to negotiate my way into the level 2 really.

Take a look at the level one curriculum, it is fairly large and you can’t be successful at level two without doing well at level one. Between combatives and defenses, 4-6 months is the norm before moving on to level 2. Most noobs think they can master the curriculum faster, but the truth is, they can’t. You might be able to pull the techniques off at training speed, but it takes time to condition yourself so that the techniques are reflexive and you don’t have to waste time thinking under stress, you just react.

Further, you come on to the forum and blast your classmates as “fatties”, claim to have the “format” down without making mention of whether or not you have have the techniques down, accuse your studio of being a McDojo that only exists to profit, and want to “negotiate” your way into level two. How about you get into level two like the rest of us did? Master the level one curriculum, take the test, and EARN it.

Re: Guys what we’ve been learning this whole time isn’t True Krav Maga

And The Lord sayeth that TKM be known as a douche, and that his system be cast upon the dead remains of Commando Krav Maga. So let it be written, so let it be done.

Re: Guys what we’ve been learning this whole time isn’t True Krav Maga

A little follow up…I have it on VERY good authority that TKM (Idan Abolnak) posted a fraudulent letter from LOTAR on his website and has been contacted by them and told to take it down. Why am I not surprised….

Re: Guys what we’ve been learning this whole time isn’t True Krav Maga

    TKM,
Your system could be the greatest thing since beer and blow jobs, but the fact is, it’s NOT Krav Maga. Krav Maga is a clearly defined, principle based system with a recognized lineage and a rich history. While our techniques may change, our principles do not. What you do does NOT follow our clearly defined, widely recognized principles. You have simply attached yourself to the name “Krav Maga” in order to capitalize on it’s success. What you have done is disingenuous at best and dishonest at worst. I lean towards dishonest.
