    Re: Domestic Violence

Not sure about others, but my trainer always taught me to run away before engaging any situation. It’s better to back off, and stay alive, than stand up and get knifed. That is the reason everyone gave you the advice of walking away. You can try to convince all the people around you, but at the end it’s your own safety that YOU have to worry about.

In my school I haven’t met anyone who seriously practices Krav and is violent. Most students are there to learn the art of SELF defense to protect their dear families and not to abuse them. But nothing is 100% perfect and I am sure your husband is learning the skills for the wrong reasons. If he doesn’t see it differently, you will NOT change his/or anyone’s minds….so it’s up to you to take actions into your hands and walk away…. alive.

Be smart, be humble, stay alive.

I’m jealous! Since I’ve moved I don’t have any school within a couple hours of me. 🙁

Before high speed internet, internet at home was a luxury. Now it’s a necessity for our home and it’s just a part of the required bills we have. Like buying a new house, I’d check the internet connection to the house as a primary decision maker.

I am afraid Krav school is going to be my second decision factor now. Can’t live too far from a good school! Lucky for me, an awesome school is only 10 mins away that’s open 6 days a week!

Can you walk me through the you tube conversion. I can’t find any instructions for using this converter.

You need to download a video first from youtube. Either use a site like this:

http://keepvid.com/ to download the video and then convert it with WinFF

Or install Real player (http://real.com) install their software and it will allow you to download youtube/flash videos from the website.

Re: Krav is killing my self defense ability 🙂

MagaMike, that has been pretty much my rule of thumb. I love feeling the pain, much better feeling than sitting in front of the computer at work all day.

    Re: KM Level 1 class

You guys are right. We (students) got carried away. Instructor follows strict KM curriculum and trains under John Whitman. But he also encourages us to think fast, which I love about my instructor.

The student who was attempting the rolls comes from Muay Thai and some wrestling, so he was experimenting with different take downs. We were mostly practicing the rear choke escape and then once the choke was correctly broken had to come up with offensive take down (escape). We sure had a great time that day though.

Re: KM in a real situation?

What a cool story, thanks for sharing that. That is a true KM training as far as I see it. Control and patience.

the phrase “Disneyland but more violent”

Speaking of: got class tonight :woohoo:

rofl2Mind if I use that phrase in my conversations? That pretty much narrows it down for me as well. And yes, a class tonight! thumbsup

Re: Come on I can take you

My trainer always talks about your own surroundings and size up your opponents. He asked us to size up regular people in regular surroundings (store, bus, street, etc) as an every day practice. Check each person, size them up, find weak points in them and how you would approach the situation if it rose up.

I find myself doing it more and more as I take more Krav and my confidence is growing too fast as well. I hope I am not put into the situation where I have to use Krav and I hope my confidence doesn’t run in front of me, as I am sure you felt the same way.

I think part of Krav teachings is how to be humble and not be a victim. My trainer just got back from California where he spent a weekend training with John Whitman. My trainer described him as someone you will never think holds a threat, but we all know what the truth is.

    Re: Level 1 test breakfast?

Good advice John and others, thanks for helping out.

I have stored up a lot of beefjerky and salads already. And will load up on bananas the morning of the test.

    Re: Is being game enough?

I’ll join in on the encouragements. Being the worst at KM class just means you have a lot more to gain from the class than others and your money will not go to waste!

Everyone on this forum was a newbie at one point or the other, so everyone can share your pain bud, just stick with it, it won’t get easier, but it will get a lot more fun to practice. I find myself exhausted every class, but the rewards of executing different drills correctly are enormous.

Talk to the instructor about your technique, ask lots of questions, even embarrassing ones. If you have a question, the chances are another person in the group who is more shy has the same question to ask too but too afraid. You are there to learn.

    Re: Level 1 test breakfast?

That’s exactly what I was looking for, not the expert advice, but the advice from the field. I think I got a general idea on the food, thanks guys!

My trainer told me I am ready for the test if all my injuries heal up by 28th. I am excited.
