Re: KM vids vs. other MA

Of those listed, I would recommend Judo. There’s nothing like being able to grab someone and place them on their ass. If they do Newaza it would be even better. My second choice would be Wing Chun Gung Fu.

    Re: Krav Maga in VB?

I’ve trained at the ATA academy in Chesapeake/VB and they have one certified Krav Maga instructor. He does not teach full time. The other “KM instructors” are “certified” under his ATA Combatives system or some other crap. Besides myself, I know of one other KMW certified instructor. I’ll PM you with the details of the other instructor.

Re: First Krav class at ATA….

This forum is quick to moderate a recommendation about a local CKM trained individual (who has also been certified via KMWW), but doesn’t care if a local KMWW affiliate has instructors that are not certified by KMWW conduct Krav training?

Re: First Krav class at ATA….

IMHO I wouldn’t look at a class like this to get into shape. I’d rather spend the time working disarms, DT and practical training. Doing push-ups, Jumping Jacks, etc would be a waste of time. Especially for an hour class that meets twice a week.

Ty for your comment.I posted my follow up response just as you respondedthumbsup

The thing you’ll notice with this KMWW affiliate is that they have 1 certified KMWW instructor for 4 or 5 different schools. The other instructors are certified under the “Master’s” Combat Systems Training. The “Master” is the only certified instructor from KMWW. He takes a lot of liberties with the curriculum and doesn’t teach all KMWW tactics. He mixes; CKM, TKD, Kali, and a bunch of other useless crap.

There is a guy in VA Beach who is trained via KMWW and CKM. He has a Facebook page, it’s called Dynamic Combatives. He’s around the Great Neck area. Drop me a line if you want the exact address. Good luck.

Re: traffic stop gone bad – 01-25-10 Battle Creek, Michigan

Wow! That was painful to watch. That could have ended very badly for that deputy and I’m sure he learned a value lesson that day.

    Re: Grappling mats

You could try Util-A-Mat Reversible Mat, they’re like $20 for a 33 sqft area. It would be good for general rolling, might be a little rough for Judo or takedowns.

    Hey yall

I am wanting to set up a grappling area in my basement. Mats a pretty expensive. I was wanting to know if anybody has done this at their house and what set up did you do. doesnt need to be huge about 10 x10 will be fine. Any ideas will be great,

Have been thinking about this clip recently & indeed, maybe he would have prevailed if he had footwear with more grip. Pretty sad that a little detail such as shoe treads might have spelled the difference between life & death. Definitely a lesson in there. Really was reminded of this doing some recent travel through airports wearing flat-sole dress shoes. Seriously thinking of switching to Dr Martin’s with more traction soles.

I think the main problem is this guy went chasing after the guy with the gun. If you’re not in the gun fight, go the other way. He was also shot in the face right away, I’m sure that definitely affected his footing, along with the other debris on the ground.

Re: Are we being true to the system?

I think the major problem with growth is there is a loss of control on the “checks and balances” on what curriculum is taught. The only requirement to hold a license is to attend the KMW training and pay your monthly dues, after that the schools are on their own. There was a post here about a month ago about this problem. The student attended a KMW school that taught the KMW curriculum, he moved to a new area, found a KMW licensed school that didn’t teach the same curriculum.

Re: What did you do in Krav Maga class today?

Your full Rhino technique is stupid and may work on a drunken child. Stop spamming this forum with your dumbass videos.

    Re: Avoidings hooks and Jabs

Too many holes in the “Rhino” defense:

    1. You can’t see because you’re covering your eyes.
    2. You totally immobilize both your hands.
    3. You open yourself up for a hook, then upper cut.
    4. Your midsection/ribs ask for a big knee strike.
    5. You can’t see if a weapon is introduced.
    6. You can’t properly defend multiple strikes.

This technique would work if your attacker were running at you full speed and they had their eyes closed, other then that it wouldn’t work.
