Re: Interesting Info on Vertical Fists

The history of this is truly fascinating. I read an excellent book some time back about pre Queensbury boxing. These bouts went on for hours and “rounds” were introduced when one fighter knocked another down.

Gloves were introduced to reduce injury to the hands which became swollen and damaged. In one account from the 1700’s one fight went on for nearly 4 hours. One participant was given gin to help them continue the fight as their scalp had split open leaving a gaping wound. This was stitched ringside (obviously minus anesthetic or pain killers) and the fighter drank gin before continuing with the fight.

This was a ladies fight in London. Yes thats right.

Re: "Black belt Krav Maga" – book ??

I too have been waiting for this book – if its anything like as good as Complete Krav Maga it should be worth the wait.

    quote Chocolate Soldier:

Thank you for that link – the interview was very interesting indeed!

Comments about cross-training, the KM level system & the ever-evolving nature of KM were very interesting.

I feel I learned a lot more about some of the underlying concepts & mindset which drive KM.

Sorry I changed the website and buggered the link up (a highly technical English expression 😉 Here it is again http://www.realitybasedtraining.co.uk/krav-maga/about-krav-maga/amnononkravmaga.html

Re: Looking for an Official Krav Maga Worldwide Training Center?

    quote Kirsten:

IKMF isn’t an “Offical KM Worldwide location” though… our affiliates are all found on the link Sean provided. However if an affiliate is not near by and you have no interest in becoming one *hint, hint*… then try that perhaps. 🙂

Good luck and keep us posted on what you find!

Forgot to add, I have heard really good things about John at the Academy… so try to check him out.

An irony – We moved over to KMWW from IKMF

Re: Looking for an Official Krav Maga Worldwide Training Center?

    Hi

We are a new licensee based in Bristol and Weston Super Mare – can we be added to the map or add our selves in some way ?

Is there someone I can ask about this ?

    Many thanks

    Re: Amnon Darsa

I know Amnon quite well – he taught the majority of my IKMF instructors course and has run a seminar for us.

Amnon is a real pro – a great practioner and a lovely guy. He is quite reserved at first but what he doesnt know about Krav Maga is not worth knowing. He is also a really interesting guy if you chat with him very perceptive and clever – I thinks he speaks french – polish, obviously hebrew, & English fluently and I believe possibly some Russian as well.

If I were you I would try to get more than just the usual basics from him like how he moves and drops his weight forward – gets off the line. The more subtle stuff that makes the good great.

I did an interview with him, he has some interesting stuff to say – I have included a link.

    Re: What to expect

    quote Kirsten:

Excellent! I am so excited. Do you know if Jon Pascal is teaching it? Also, is it a Civillian Force Training Instructor course or a Law Enforcement Force Training course?

    Hi Kirsten

This course is held july 1st to 5th in Belgium. Is this the course you are on ?

The site from the European site says

    INSTRUCTORS:

Course will be taught by JON PASCAL, DIRECTOR of the Krav Maga Force Training Division.
He has over 10 years of Law Enforcement experience with the Los Angeles County Sheriffís Department and over 20 years experience training in Krav Maga. He will be assisted by THIERRY VIATOUR, E.U. Chief Instructor.

Has anyone else done the course – just trying to get an idea about what happens ?

Re: Is unaffiliated KM better than nothing?

    Hi

I trained as a Kapap Instructor with Avi back in 2005.

It was a 5 day course and frankly a jumble of techniques. It was a but of fun but not an instructors course. If you are in Okinawa you would be mad not to do some real Okinawian Karate –

Do the Krav in the states. Dont bother with the ktrav guy – sounds like he has not even done a proper Instructors course.

    Good luck tho.

    Re: Training in Israel

    Hi

I am not sure what group you train with but the IKMF do a tour and train in Israel I think in June and December. Its open to anyone and you can do the combat shooting and krav i believe. Look it up on the UIKMF main site – will probably be something.

    Hope that helps.

Re: Commando Krav Maga / CKM / Moni Aizik

We wrote an expose on Moni and his claims here http://www.realitybasedtraining.co.uk/commando.html

    We found some really interesting and less well documented claims from Moni – some are simply staggering. I have attached some quotes form his own instructors;

Moni Aizik on Imi the founder of Krav Maga
    (Statement from a CKM Instructor)
“In October 200x he told me that he was ìnot impressedî with Imi Lichtenfeld when he trained him. He said that he ìbounced up and down a lotî and was quite limited as a Martial Artist.”

“When I first spoke to Moni Aizik about coming down for a seminar (summer in June 2006), I asked him what training he had in Krav Maga. He stated that he had collaberated with Imi Lichtenfeld many years prior and he did some refining of the system. That he was a Chief Instructor in Krav Maga.”

“When asked about his Krav Maga background, he said that the Krav Maga we would be exposed to is the graduate level of Krav Maga. I specifically asked him if Imi Lichtenfeld gave him his certification test and he said yes that they had worked together to get this certificate.”

“Moni Aizik stated to me that he was the driving force behind Krav Maga in Israel and was a Black Belt in Krav Maga and Judo. I found out later that Aizik never trained in Krav Maga a day in his life.”

“In that time I trained he said he was a Major with a Special Forces Unit in the IDF called Sayeret Golani 13. He said while he was in the unit they were sent behind the lines of a Syrian force 1000 strong. In that battle he told me he was wounded and that all but 4 others and himself were killed. His wounds consisted of a piece of shrapnel in his eyes.”

    Possibly the most insitefull quote

“The defence against a downward ìice-pickî style knife stab had changed considerably from the defence that I had learned 1 year previously on my Level 1/2 CKM instructor course. Moni Aizik told me that he had been thinking about this situation on the plane on the way over to the UK and had made up the technique actually on the plane.

Later on in the same course I learned that Moni had been talking to other students on the course about the origins of the technique and had told them that he had been developing it Israeli Special Forces people for the previous 6 months.”

Have a look at the article, we tried to collate as much as we could. We have already recieved legal threats but I believe we are on strong ground so are gearing upselves up to defend our article legally.

I wrote it as I got so fed up with Moni misleading people and associating his frankly poor product (CKM) with Krav Maga.

    Cheers Guys

Re: Commando Krav Maga / CKM / Moni Aizik

We are currently completing an expose on Moni Aizik and his many extra ordinary claims.

One point we have noted is that Moni never appears to have been trained as or certified as a Krav Maga Instructor by anybody? In other words if he has no formal Krav Maga Instructor training in Israel via the IDF, Imi or other organisations how can he certify “Instructors” on his weekend courses.

If anyone has further info on Moni please email pm. Any further information will be greatfully recieved.

    Cheers

    Hi.

Interesting Moni Article here or should I say the alternative CKM History http://www.krav-maga-bristol.org.uk/commando.html

    Re: Krav Maga and CrossFit

    quote garddawg:

    Paul,
We had some brief discussions about CF around the time I was over there to do a seminar on Olympic weightlifting. You were really into Kettlebells as I recall. Are you heading to Manchester for the certification?

So we have been doing this a long time now. If you are going to run a CF class before the KM class the folks will need a break. Usually what we do is tell the CFitters that they can take an active rest during the Krav Maga warm up. They run, stretch etc. but skip anything high intensity. Then they are usually ready for the first drill and good to go through the rest of the class. Flipping it around a well conditioned CrossFitter can go through a KM class and use it as a warm up for CrossFit. It will take some time, but people that commit to both and give their all in both will be way ahead of the ones who don’t.

Out of curisoty, how long are your krav sessions and crossfit sessions. I think 2 hours training then crossfit is to long but we have loads of students who do it now.

I think CF is a secret ingredient for anyone wanting to progrtess really well with krav.
