Re: Gender segregation in the studio
Ftgf, I’ll be part of training team starting Thursday.
Definitely will raise this issue.November 25, 2012 at 12:05 am #86184taikeiMemberRe: Gender segregation in the studio
I’ll pass on to Kokushi about this issue.
He’ll be in studio starting next month.March 15, 2009 at 12:44 pm #73964taikeiMemberRe: KM Weaknesses?
I’m learning Krav Maga since November 2002, and they don’t have the defense for followings:
1. Cheese cake thrown at you, no way to defend.
2. Dogs lick your face, no way to defend.Compared to mix martial art and other competitive martial arts, I cannot say Krav Maga is defensive. Fire arm defense and take away in 5 seconds, no need for trapping.

Kokushi’s spending alot of months in States.
He’s bouncing back and forth. You’d need no worry.I want you guys sending people here in return.
March 27, 2007 at 12:58 pm #52865taikeiMemberI had a severe sprained ankle and attended just about every KM class, and got me into orange belt test. I was crazy enough to proceed.
Some times the best treatment is done by doing what you like the most.
Having said that, I wouldn’t recommend other than to rest.
I remember taping my ankle before each class.
January 12, 2007 at 11:19 am #51883taikeiMemberCoincidence.
Kokushi is a Japanese noun for \”nationalist\”, name Matsumoto is a typical last name like \”Johnson\”.Didn’t know my instructor was playing prime minister. Where is he these days.
January 10, 2007 at 3:49 pm #51847taikeiMemberMy first couple ranks were IKMF standard, then later KMAA.
Since IKMF KMAA worked on videos and DVD, to some extent they are similar or same in terms of techniques. It has been years since, so there must be some changes.
IKMF has 10 steps to reach what is equivalent to first degree black belt.November 8, 2006 at 3:12 pm #50823taikeiMemberI got bit hard once. Instinctive act was defend with my forearm otherwise he’d had my face. I was carried to emergency room, stiched up my arm.
The more they’re hostile, less time for us to react. That’s how smart they are. In my case, whole thing happend in half a second.

October 8, 2006 at 2:58 am #50232taikeiMemberI went with IKMF based grading system first, up to P2, then to orange belt with KMAA base. Roughly 2 steps of IKMF rank equivalent to 1 belt.
E1 being black so brown to be G5, Blue G3, Green G1 etc…October 4, 2006 at 2:21 pm #50149taikeiMemberPunch and inside defense both have similar starting motion.
Inside defense without much momentum from whole body mechanism.
If you are doing some slow spar, don’t wait for opponent’s punch but go for inside defense just as you are trying to punch. Difference is matter of palm or fist. At least you will be learning portion of inside D and punching. Also whenever you are holding pair of focus mits for your partner, observe the punch carefully and imagine what you will do with that punch. The mit that has not been hit, should slide his or her forearm. Although you don’t have to do this, it may be a good habit to make a slight move.
Take advantage of any punching situations.
August 14, 2006 at 12:05 pm #49028taikeiMemberGiven your base leg’s toe pointing towards opposite the target(not perpendicular to target), tilt or lean your upper body in direction of base leg. Lower the upper body, higher the kicking foot.
I don’t think level 1 requires that much for side kicks.
Unless you have a specific mission that must be accomplished by high side kick, keep on with basic side kicks. You will get it eventually.June 27, 2006 at 3:55 pm #48003taikeiMemberIt’s no different from any basic BJJ techniques. Or they’ve not shown any secret weapons in this one. It’s a good idea to step into BJJ course anywhere.
June 23, 2006 at 10:31 am #47924taikeiMemberThe old forum was somewhat a rich source of \”articles\”, I remember printing those out.
otherwise here’s one.
http://www.realfighting.com/1001/kravmaga.htmJune 9, 2006 at 3:21 pm #47624taikeiMemberI had problems during spar where I was irritated by opponent’s kicks and punches and mine not hitting anything.
Once my instructor dimmed the light during a fight. Wearing a head gear covering both cheeks with very bad peripheral vision (usually front kick low round kick are out of my vision), added by darkness was a total blackout. I gave up winning over opponent and started concentrating on basic combinations and focus on fewer objectives.
Actually this turned out to be my best spar I’ve done up to that point. Every attack I did prior to this were never combinations, nothing that I’ve done on focus mitt were utilized.Could be a good idea to limit or change objectives depending situations. Having lot to do in 3 minutes is too much. If 3 spars then set 3 different objectives.
