Re: your first fight experience
5th Grade over a pickup football game in the school yard. That catch was out of bounds and nobody was going to tell me different. After the fight was over it was 4th down and the other team had to punt.

With an upwards inside kick you have to be careful your opponent doesn’t turn the knee in otherwise your foot meets their shin and their shin usually wins. That little turn in motion is the default move we teach for inside kicks…but it is a fast kick.

Give it a day or two then get back to class. It will all work itself out eventually. Kind of a right of passage. You’ll enjoy watching it happen to others if you stick with it long enough.

Very true…at one time both of these schools were however not officially part of KMWW anymore.
If that is a requirement then I do not believe you have any options in Nebraska.

oh yeah Ice and ibuprofen for swelling…unless you got something better
December 6, 2010 at 10:10 pm #81226tigeruppercutMemberRe: Toe Injury
You can try and tape it but if it hurts to walk it will hurt to kick pads. Toe injuries (like fingers) just take time heal. The harder you work them the longer it will take…broken or not broken.
Sorry it sucks, but on the bright side you learned a very valuable lesson about kicking.

I would think the more the attacker is using his left hand to hold you the less he is thinking about his right hand and the knife thus making it easier for you to get the first redirect in.
Using the video as a reference when you initially redirect the weapon your body will slightly blade (simular to the choke against the wall). If the attacker is pushing on you he should sort of fall into the wall. While he is regaining balance you are already stabbing him repeatedly (as seen in the video)
On a side note, great video. I’ve watched almost all of them and they are always very informative and break things down very well.

I train at an ATA/Krav Maga/MMA school and each class is taught to the principles it follows. That is TKD tournment sparring in TKD class, Krav sparring in KM class and full MMA rules in the MMA class. Don’t let ATA stop you from at least trying a class. Any reputable school should let you try or watch a few classes before signing up for anything.

Oh and as far as places to go and what to look for most reputable places will offer free classes and something other than a 1 year up front membership. Try out classes in both/all locations and see where you get a better feel.
It is not manditory to be KMWW licensed to be a good gym but KMWW does a very good job of monitoring licensed gyms to make sure they are providing authentic KM training.

Don’t let fitness hold you back. Start as soon as possible and the fitness will come with classes. In preperation for classes before you can start I would skip weights or do light weight workouts (low weight high reps) and lots of cardio.
You will still probably gas your first few nights but Krav is not about being physically strong. There is no bench press test before you start class, however you’ll be happy you started working your cardiovascular system as soon as you can.
Enjoy.
August 9, 2010 at 1:51 pm #80839tigeruppercutMemberRe: Cross training in Kung Fu
What is your reason for cross training. Are you looking for meditational value, overall physical fitness, or just to add to your tool belt?
Not that Kung fu would be better or worse than other art, but when asking should I do something I generally ask what is the goal why would I want to do this?

Very cute, I enjoy sparring with my (now not so) little ones as well. Be careful of the straight right to the goodies. It’s a child specialty.

Agree with Steve: Both. However to pick one go with the heavy bag.
