In 2006, Founder Marni Levine, a 4th degree black belt in Krav Maga and the highest-ranking female instructor in the world, began a personal battle against breast cancer. A superior Krav Maga instructor, great wife, wonderful mother, and a true friend to many, Marni’s devotion to the practice of Krav Maga and her ability to share her knowledge and skills in all her facets of life helped to successfully advance many aspects of Krav Maga Worldwide’s programs. After a long fight, Marni passed away at the age of 37.
From Krav Maga Worldwide's Chief Instructor Darren Levine
It has been ten years since my beloved wife, Marni, died of breast cancer at the age of 37, leaving behind our two daughters, Jordyn Rose and Brooke Eryn, her family and innumerable loving friends and admirers.
As co-founder of the Krav Maga Association of America, Marni was a fighter who never believed in giving up. Marni was known internationally as a woman devoted to helping other women protect themselves. Marni's wish was for doctors to learn more about breast cancer and how to beat it. Marni wanted to help make a difference in the fight against the disease. To honor Marni’s strength, will and courage, and to continue her legacy of fighting cancer, Krav Maga Worldwide™ established The Marni Fund, a program dedicated to funding innovative cancer research.
Marni's life touched thousands of other people. Marni made a difference to so many of these people. Although we still feel an acute loss, there is also a sense of great comfort knowing that through STOP CANCER’s designation of The Marni Fund, Marni's fight lives on. Marni's spirit lives on. Groundbreaking women’s cancer research is being funded to develop improved treatments, new diagnostic procedures and the ultimate goal – A CURE.
This year STOP CANCER's annual 5k/10k Run/Walk will be held on October 23 at Woodley Park in Van Nuys, CA. Krav Maga Worldwide will be participating in the Run/Walk and raising money for The Marni Fund via donations.
