training for special forcesAre you in the process of training for special forces? Special forces training is difficult, rigorous, and highly selective, but the mental and physical strength that candidates gain is truly an achievement. What do you need to know when you are training for special forces? Here are a few things to keep in mind when you’re about to begin training:

Focus on Things You Don’t Normally Do

Perhaps you are primarily a weight lifter and lift anywhere from 4–5 days a week. If you haven’t been infusing any other methods into your routine, then this is something you should seek to change. Running, swimming, and a variety of other methods are sure to help make even your weakest body parts stronger. Always strive for full body strength rather than just excellent upper or lower body strength. Your body needs to become a weapon, so there’s no room for an “achilles heel.” When you start training just remember that your goal is a strong mind, arms, core and legs.

Consider Your Fighting Skills

How trained of a fighter are you? Have you taken some self defense courses like Krav Maga, boxing, or anything of the like? If not, now would be the time to sharpen your fighting skills. You never know just what you will encounter in the special forces, so you want to make sure you are as prepared as possible. A Krav Maga course is perfect to help you prepare yourself for fighting in a variety of settings and situations. Through a series of drills, you’re also likely to build up your total body strength. Learning to fight and building up your body as whole is exactly what you need when you’re training for the special forces.

Work on Your Nutrition

While you train, begin to work on your nutrition to ensure you’re putting an adequate amount of fuel into your body. You’ll need the fuel for intense training sessions. Whether you’re weight lifting, running, or doing Krav Maga, your body relies on the food you put into it. You won’t be able to train effectively without the proper nutrition. Start by evaluating your current diet to look for holes in the way you currently eat. Now is the time to get an eating plan in place.

man runningHow’s Your Endurance?

When it comes to training for special forces, endurance is key. With lengthy swims and runs, you need to be able to keep going. If endurance in exercise is still not your strong suit, this is something you’ll want to work on in your training. You want to make sure you begin conditioning your body for the long haul.

It’s All About Total Body Fitness

If you need training for special forces, it is all about total body fitness. For those of you that are arms-focused, do not neglect your leg or core muscles. They’ll get you through some of the toughest of drills. When training, you want to make sure you are incorporating workouts that will strengthen your entire body. There’s no room for weak areas, so you want to focus on workouts that will build up your total body strength.

Training for special forces is no easy feat. If it was easy, conditioning beforehand wouldn’t be necessary, but we all know that is not the case. With the proper exercise and diet, you’ll be well on your way in no time.
