Hi I was wondering if anybody knows the difference between Krav Maga and the marine core martial arts program.

One thing I have noticed is that MCMAP doesn’t have any training locally and they want more than a 4 or 5 hours a week but, There are no training fees.thumbsup

When my son got out of Marine Corps boot camp abou 5 years ago we compared his MCMAP to the Krav I was taking. I was new at Krav then, but it appeared to have a lot of similiarities to the stuff he showed me.

I saw them doing weapons demos at the LB MA show in 2006. It did have some similarities. I believe they changed the program few years ago to incorporate more “modern” techniques. ( compare to traditional MA)

I think we did a thread on this awhile back. Pre CJ’s Dad. It may come up in search. There was a Marine named Prekarious1 who posted here for awhile before he got out. He was a brown belt in MCMAP. Last we heard he was out and trying to get in CHP academy. There were threads on differences and similarities. Human Weapon did a show on MCMAP, which I know is on Veoh. Its there for sure, but good luck with their search feature

I would be curious on this also. I got out of the USMC about 12 years ago and we had the L.I.N.E program then and I understand it was changed. I know in L.I.N.E. some of the techniques were similar to some of the stuff we are learning in KM with minor variances(i.e. headlock defense..goinging for the eye sockets to move the head instead of the nose).

Line training was much more effective for the simple reason that everything was the same. Sweep and stomp!
MCMAP is effective for a beginner based program. Takes moves from 7 or 8 TMA’s and incorporates them into something that is combat effective but not practiced enough (by majority of Marines I dealt with unless they were my troops) and seemed to be progressing more towards a mma to grappling direction when I got out last year.
