This is more for debate more than me actually practicing this defense as I haven’t reached this level but….

If you get a chance check out the video on this page http://video.kravmagatv.com/

Now when I look at this and compare to the knife defense on pg. 318 of Complete Krav Maga it seems like a really bad catch and way too high up on the arm, leaving the attacker ample oportunity to continue with the back hand plunge into the dudes gut.

Am I off on this? But looking at this even from a beginners perspective his demonstration looks like he needs to pivot his left arm for the catch.

Fwiw there’s a move against a frontal straight stab with a similar grip to the attacker’s bicep..

I think the idea is trying to make the best of what would be an extremely bad situation in ‘real life’ & if one were to execute the steps fast enough, the attacker probably wouldn’t be able to react fast enough and rally with a counterattack…

One of the underlying KM principles is to go on the offensive immediately thus getting inside the other’s OODA Loop

No real verdict on the move in the vid clip, just some ramblings on my part…

I hear you, and understand that the dynamics of the situation change things. I suppose in general the speed dictates what sort of catch you can actually make along with, of course your level of ability, but that catching closer to the wrist is preferable.

    Thanks for your reply.

He does it properly, until he traps with the wrong hand. You should block as he did, if you do it right, the attacker will probably drop the knife as you will hyperextend his elbow.

You grab his right wrist, strike with your left hand and go into a figure 4 arm lock, or grab by the head and manipulate him to the ground. Many options, but the block is correct.
