    Re: Belts and Levels?

    I found this…

    Practitioner 1 & 2 equals Yellow belt.
    Practitioner 3 & 4 equals Orange belt..
Practitioner 5 & Graduate 1 equals Green belt.
    Graduate 2 & 3 equals Blue belt.
    Graduate 4 & 5 Brown belt
Expert 1 equals Black belt 1 dan
Expert 2 equals Black belt 2 dan
Expert 3 equals Black belt 3 dan
Expert 4 equals Black belt 4 dan
Expert 5 equals Black belt 5 dan
Master 1 – Darren Levine, USA
    Master 2
Master 3 – Only Eyal Yanilov, Israel

But are belt and level tests diffrent?

    Re: Belts and Levels?

When you start you’re level 1 (white belt) learning level 2 (yellow belt) materials. After you pass your test for level 2, you become a yellow belt (or level 2) student learning level 3 (or orange belt) materials and so on. You are basically always learning materials of one level above yours.
The confusion sometimes comes from that the actual classes are named after the level of the students not the level of the materials that are taught.

I hope it helps and I didn’t add more to your confusion.

    G’day JMAC,

You are comparing the IKMF levels with KMAA/WW belts here, and they are different, as is the syllabus. The belt/level comparison you have there is broadly accurate for the IKMF (which used to use belts but no longer does). The levels/belts there to not equate to those of the KMAA though. For instance, from looking at the Levine/Whitman book, many (not all)of the techniques considered to be brown belt techniques in KMAA are contained in Graduate 1 training in IKMF. Also, some of the techniques from organisation to organisation are different too. Hope this adds clarity.

    CHeers,

    Andy
