Minimum glove required is the bare-knuckle brand. You can get fancy if you wish and I recommend that you do if you are new to punching.

Oh, you can get wraps too! Far cheaper.
Here is a link on how to wrap you hands with wraps. The “method” links on the right give you a pictorial on how it is done.
