    Hi guys

So as we all know, KM has techniques on how to disarm somebody who tries to stab or slash you with a knife. But what if the person is just standing there, not moving? Or maybe gesticulating with the knife but not attacking you yet (although an attack is imminent)?

The gun defenses are the closest thing I can think of to this. Of course nobody is likely to try and attack you with the gun itself, so therefore the defender has to initiate a disarm and attack.

So how would one initiate such a disarm against a “passive” attacker?

    This.

Redirect – control in a 1-1.5 motion, counter, and disarm with a pushing and pulling motion similar to a cavalier. Which hands/the order of the hands redirecting and controling might change depending on the location of the knife relative to your body. It is in the system.

KM does have techniques and tactics which deal with knife threats, and some do follow similar principles as gun threats.

Hope they appreciate the advantage I have with my larger knife.

As already mentioned there are techniques that are very similar to the gun threats and involve controlling the knife hand, counter attacking and disarming. There are simpler solutions too which basically involve a blow to deflect the knife from your body combined with a quick kick to the groin and then running away. These are taught quite early on in the IKMF syllabus.

a 75 yard field goal attempt to the gonads ought to help facilitate the transfer of the knife from his hand to somewhere else.
