Has anyone read the interview with Paul Vunak in latest issue of Black Belt magazine? If I read it correctly he is essentially saying there is no practical defense against a knife!

I don’t think I’ve read it, but my first thought would be never say never. Of course, a strong knife attack is hard to repel, but at least you should try. In KM, we teach aggression, so even if you mess up your block and get cut, you should try to at least hit back until you can find an opportunity to create distance, then run or pick up something from the ground… Saying there is no practical defense sounds as if you have no choice but to just let the guy kill you, which would be 100% fatal. If you try to fight back, you may also get killed, or you may get injured, but overall the odds should improve, which would be better than nothing.

Re: Paul Vunak & knife defense

Speaking of Paul Vunak, there is an annual retreat held on Friday, August 12th through Monday, August 15th, 2011.

This seminar extravaganza has been in the making for 3 years. In August of 2009 we reserved the most beautiful beach front paradise in California. Finally this year we got it. We have gathered our resources together and pulled out all of the plugs! Our agenda is so packed we needed to add a 3rd day, for a total of 24 hours of total Jeet Kune Do submersion. We call this seminar the “Metamorphosis of Jeet Kune Do.”

This retreat will be held at Doheny Beach in Dana Point, CA. For more information, go to http://www.fighting.net/seminars. We are looking forward to seeing some Krav Maga forum members at the retreat. Please spread the word to other passionate fans of Bruce Lee, Krav Maga and Paul Vunak.
