I was listening to the Joe Rogan podcast with Rickson Gracie and Eddie Bravo. Rickson talk in great length about how BJJ evolved from a means of self defense to a sport focused martial art. He is starting an organization where part of its focus would be bringing more of the self defense roots back into it.
He also recounted a story in which a student asked his BJJ instructor about learning self defense. The instructor said “if you want to learn self defense go take Krav Maga.”
