Has anyone taken classes for this discipline? I’m thinking about joining a local class one night a week. I’d appreciate any feedback you guys might have.

You might want to ask that question on these forums:

http://www.e-budo.com or http://www.budoseek.net since this is a question specific to Japanese martial arts, primarily around kenjutsu/iaido/batto. Just my .02 cents in helping you out. 🙂
