Tracheostomy/Throat Surgery

If anyone else here has recovered or is recovering from throat/neck surgery, I would like to pick your brain for ideas and insights into getting back to training at full speed.

How long without training?
How do you handle training against choke holds and educational defense,etc etc etc?
