Nothing wrong with the \”judged by 12\” comment…It isn’t an equivalent to shoot first, ask later…I interpret it more as don’t let yourself get killed thinking about possible ramifications of your actions in the face of a threat.
In Colorado, for the most part, you would get arrested for the hypothetical stabbing, but more than likely just as a formality. You would be released immediately and charges would more than likely not be filed (as long as the knife was legal)…That would, of course, be dependant on being able to verify your stabbing was, in fact, self-defense.
Also, on a side note, we had a guy that fired 13 rounds into a car driving toward him, striking the front (as he was on the move) and then along the driver’s side door…The weapon was a Glock 22, the ammo was Federal Tactical HP…NOT A SINGLE ROUND PENETRATED THE CAR DOOR!!! Reminding us all that caliber is always secondary to shot placement…
