Krav Maga Self-Defense Classes.
There are so many different styles of martial arts and self-defense classes, both in person and online, it becomes easy to be concerned you are picking the “right” class and getting the best training. Depending on your motivation for learning self-defense or learning to fight, it can be a struggle to find a gym, club, dojo, instructor, app, video series, or training center that you really trust and feel good about.
If you are interested in competing in martial arts as a sport, you should look for a gym that is training people for competition. If you are interested in doing some “martial arts style” workouts for fitness and health benefits you should look for a boutique or “niche” style gym that offers that sort of style-based experience. However if what you want is to learn fundamental, effective, self-defense there is no better choice than training at a certified Krav Maga Worldwide center and learning Krav Maga.
Anyone who is interested in how to learn Krav Maga should start with Krav Maga Worldwide self-defense training. Krav Maga Worldwide offers the best in Krav Maga classes. Our focus is on making effective self-defense easy to learn and easy to recall under stress. Self-defense classes at a Krav Maga Worldwide certified training center will help you learn to fight, and give you the skills to help you go home safe in the case of an assault.
There are a few key things that you should know if you are considering how to learn Krav Maga. These points will help you understand why Krav Maga is the most effective self-defense and what to expect from Krav Maga training classes. They will also shed some light on why Krav Maga is the best choice for the most effective self-defense training.
You're learning a system, not a martial art.
Krav Maga Worldwide is the world’s leader in reality-based self-defense training. We have decades of experience empowering people, both civilians and law enforcement and military personnel with real skills to be safe and strong. Krav Maga training is meant to be for every person.
Those statements aren’t just for promotion or publicity. Krav Maga Worldwide is the only organization in the United States to hold a Certificate of Authenticity from the creator of the Krav Maga system, Imi Lichtenfeld and the Israel Association for Krav Maga. Our Chief Instructor Darren Levine began training with Imi Lichtenfeld at the prestigious Wingate Institute in 1981. Darren brought Krav Maga training and Krav Maga techniques back to the United states from the very source of Krav Maga training itself. It was Imi Lichtenfeld’s vision that Krav Maga training and Krav Maga classes be made available for every person, and he tasked Darren with helping him accomplish that vision in 1994.
Imi created Krav Maga as a system because he had to find a way to bring a large number of people to a high level of proficiency in hand-to-hand combat in a very short period of time. In fact, Imi’s development of Krav Maga was instrumental in helping form the first version of the IDF. He had to create a system, not some kind of esoteric art form, that would teach people to fight for their lives.
One of the first things that Imi recognized was that to train people effectively and efficiently the ceremonial or performance related elements common in traditional martial arts had to go. There was no time for forms, katas, or demonstrations.
Krav Maga self-defense training doesn’t involve any of those things. Imi also recognized that because he was training people who would become soldiers fighting for their lives, there would be nothing considered “off limits” or illegal in terms of a competition setting in the Krav Maga system. That’s why Krav Maga is referred to as a no-holds barred system. Students are taught to do whatever it takes to prevail.
Krav Maga Worldwide certified training centers teach the same system that Imi developed. It’s a practical approach that focuses on a certain skill set in each Krav Maga level. The skills that each level focuses on increase in difficulty and intensity as students progress through the system. However all of the skills and tactics that students learn are related, integrated, and progressively build on each other.
As a result, the basic way of thinking and dealing with a situation that students learn in Level 1 is the same as in Level 5. Nothing changes about the fundamentals of the system. What changes is the level of difficulty, intensity, and variables involved in the situations being trained on.
For example, students in Krav Maga Level 1 learn defenses against chokes, grabs, headlocks, etc. In Level 2, students learn defenses against chokes and headlocks on the ground. Jump to Level 5 and students learn defenses against chokes and headlocks on the ground in which a knife or a gun might also be involved. The training approach and fundamentals in all of these Krav Maga levels is the same. The Krav Maga techniques involved in making the defenses and applying the tactics just become more complex.
Krav Maga Worldwide self-defense is about training as efficiently and effectively as possible. Each class will focus on skills you need to know, and will give you the chance to apply those skills in a way that helps you learn them quickly and retain them. It’s a systematic approach with proven effectiveness. It’s not an art form.
It's going to be challenging.
Physical and mental challenges, especially in terms of working out or training, are often connected and related to the overall intensity of a given activity. Your body is going to be able to give a certain amount of effort up to a certain comfort level, at which point your mind will want to chime in and tone things down. Some people are very used to this and actually enjoy it as a part of working out or training. Other people are not used to this dynamic in any way, and it can be scary and uncomfortable.
Krav Maga Worldwide self-defense training and Krav Maga Worldwide self-defense classes are meant to involve some physical and mental challenges because of the stress that is involved in a real-world physical confrontation. Training in a self-defense class should be pushing you to a level that is somewhat uncomfortable so that you understand what you are capable of.
Classes at Krav Maga Worldwide certified training centers are meant to be challenging because confronting and overcoming those challenges will help you build a relentless mindset. Consistent training and consistently overcoming challenges in every Krav Maga level as you work your way through the Krav Maga belt system, makes students familiar with operating in uncomfortable, stressful, circumstances. There’s no other way to achieve this sort of conditioning without facing those challenges head on.
Krav Maga Worldwide self-defense classes are going to be challenging because they have to be. In order to learn to overcome fear and exhaustion and continue fighting back, you have to do it. Our classes, and the Krav Maga system, are designed to do this in a very controlled and specific way.
Certified Krav Maga Worldwide instructors are experts.
