Self-defense training is something that everyone should be doing in some way. The need for self-defense skills is definitely going to vary from one location to the next. Everyone should be aware of how urgent the need for self-defense training is in relation to where they live and what sort of activities they are involved in. Training to be capable of defending yourself requires the best self-defense classes.
Some people live in places that are, overall, just more dangerous than others. However even in a state, city, or town where risks and dangers are minimal, everyone should have some baseline knowledge of self-defense and baseline ability to defend themselves in case of an assault
Awareness is key to recognizing the need for training. Understanding just what self-defense is and what self-defense training involves is key to deciding where to get involved in self-defense training.
This brings up the question, “what is the best self-defense”. It’s a seemingly easy question but it’s a complicated answer. The short answer is that the best self-defense training can be found at Krav Maga Worldwide certified training centers.
Krav Maga Worldwide is the world’s leader in reality based self-defense training. We have decades of experience training civilians, law enforcement agencies, and even military units in the most effective self-defense system.
Many organizations around the world, and probably even in your own neighborhood, can make the claim that their self-defense classes are “the best”. However there are three major elements that distinguish self-defense training at a Krav Maga Worldwide certified training centers as the best and most effective way to learn practical self-defense and to learn to fight so that you can get home safe.
Krav Maga Worldwide is driven by a mission and a purpose. Our mission is to empower every person with real skills to be safer and stronger so they may walk in peace.
Think about that for a minute. Every one of our certified training centers is dedicated to the idea that we want to make people better. We want students to be both safer and stronger so that they can live a peaceful and happy life.
Taking classes at a Krav Maga Worldwide certified training center means that you are working toward your own goals. Not just in the training rooms but in your life. Whatever your personal motivation is for getting involved in self-defense training, whether it’s the dangers inherent to where you live as mentioned above, or overcoming something in your past, or working toward a health and fitness related goal, Krav Maga Worldwide certified training centers will help you.
The mission and purpose that is at the heart of our self-defense, fitness, and fight training programs is about empowerment and empowering people. We want people to become safer and stronger because safer and stronger individuals mean safer and stronger communities. A population of targets that is more difficult for criminals to prey on is safer for everyone in that population.
We don’t just train people to go out and win in a street fight. Getting into a street fight to prove a point, or to win an argument over a parking space, or to gain some sort of respect, has nothing to do with the overall goal of self-defense. Training in self-defense classes at a Krav Maga Worldwide certified training center teaches students skills that help them not even be in those situations to begin with.
Krav Maga Worldwide certified training centers understand that the goal of self-defense training and its ultimate purpose is being at peace. Being a student at a Krav Maga Worldwide certified training center means you are taking positive action to improve your life by learning effective self-defense skills. Our staff and instructors believe in and embody your mission. We’re here to help you and make you both safer and stronger, not just put you through a bunch of classes.
The Krav Maga self-defense system was developed in Israel by a man named Imi Lichtenfeld shortly after WWII when Israel was forming as a nation. As a young man, Imi had extensive experience in boxing and grappling. When WWII broke out he joined the Nazi resistance movement in Europe and, after the war, like many other Jews, he emigrated to Israel seeking a peaceful life.
When Israel began to form an organized military force to defend itself, the new nation’s leaders sought out Imi to lead the fledgling military’s training. Unfortunately for Imi, the majority of his fellow immigrants had little to no hand-to-hand fighting experience let alone combat experience. Imi’s task was essentially to develop a way to teach people to become proficient in hand-to-hand combat in a very short period of time. He developed a self-defense system that became known as Krav Maga.
The time constraints that Imi faced caused him to basically think of self-defense and martial arts training in a way that involved no ceremonial or traditional elements. Things like demonstrations and katas had to be eliminated and replaced with hard core training that would help people learn self-defense and learn hand-to-hand combat very quickly.
The second major influence on Krav Maga’s development was the geographical dangers all around Israel. Essentially, every nation that bordered Israel was a threat. Imi realized that teaching people who were going to be soldiers hand-to-hand combat and self-defense was really about teaching them to survive. This resulted in Krav Maga being developed as a “no holds barred” system for self-defense and fighting.
There is nothing that is “off-limits” or considered to be “dirty” or “cheating” in Krav Maga. The system teaches people to do whatever they can to win if they are in a fight. That means using techniques like groin strikes, eye-gouges, throat strikes, and strikes to the back of the head, which are rules violations in sport fighting and competitions.
A no holds barred system and mentality is critical for self-defense in terms of the overall goal that we mentioned above. There’s no rules, there’s no referee, in an assault that happens on the streets. Training to strike targets like the groin, eyes, etc. causes an opponent or attacker pain as well as an involuntary response, like doubling over, or not being able to see. It makes fighting back and winning more efficient and effective.
Imi also developed Krav Maga to be easy to learn and easy to recall under stress. Imi purposely did not develop a “martial art” that took years to master, he developed a system that anyone could learn. Basing this system on instinctive movements that people basically already knew how to do was key to making Krav Maga techniques easy to understand and to remember.
Krav Maga Worldwide self-defense is the best self-defense for the streets because it is an easy to learn system that teaches these no holds barred techniques and a survival mentality.
Instructor quality and dedication is another element that sets Krav Maga Worldwide self-defense classes apart from any other organization.
Starting from the very top, our Chief Instructor, Darren Levine, received his black belt in Krav Maga from Imi Lichtenfeld himself. Darren was also given what is known as a “Founders Diploma” from Imi and the Israeli government. The Founders Diploma entitled Darren to take the Krav Maga system and training that Imi developed from to the United States to begin teaching and spreading Krav Maga around the world…or, worldwide.
There is no other Krav Maga organization that has this same pedigree. Krav Maga Worldwide is the only organization outside of Israel that has such ties directly to Imi and the origins of Krav Maga.
As a company, Krav Maga Worldwide maintains the ideals and practices that Imi taught and instilled in Darren. Every Krav Maga Worldwide certified training center is staffed by expert instructors who have dedicated their lives to the mission of making people safer and stronger.
Training to become a Krav Maga Worldwide certified instructor is an ongoing experience. Earning each and every level of instructor certification is a physical and mental challenge that pushes our instructors to get better. The instructor training program is the most discerning and difficult in the world and it ensures that our instructors are constantly maintaining and developing their skills so that they can better serve the students they train.
For Krav Maga Worldwide certified self-defense instructors, teaching isn’t just a job, it’s something they strive to do at the highest level. Our instructors embody everything that our company is about. They want to see people become safer and stronger. They want students to be prepared for the worst and to be able to overcome it.
