Ortiz vs. Shamrock – Too quick

Sylvia vs. Arlovski – Too long

At least a couple of the undercards were entertaining …

    Hey,
I was at the fights, too. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTING! I don’t know why the stopped the Ortiz/Shamrock fight so early. Shamrock was getting pummeled, yes, but his safety wasn’t yet compromised, and it was only for a few seconds. In my opinion, yes, he would have gotten pummeled even more, but let’s face facts: that’s what people had paid for, and they deserved to get a little more of it.

For those of you who weren’t there, you should have seen how the energy went out of the entire complex. 15,000 people who paid $$$$ to see the fight suddenly felt like the air had been sucked out of their lungs. It was idiotic.

Then Arlovski/Silvia…two guys who didn’t want to fight each other, it seemed.

I feel sorry for all those people who bought their tickets for hundreds of $$$.

Very, very dissapointing. Full contact, no holds barred, cage fighting at its best? I know you need to have rules and regulations, and safety has certainly improved a lot in the UFC over the last several years, but come on!!

These guys train to FIGHT, fight hard, and yes, they know they can get hurt. Let the fights go a little longer. Shanmrock was getting hit, but I think he would have got out of that situation, got back up, and fought to at least the end of round one. I still think he would have lost in the end, but can Ortiz REALLY feel good about that win? Come on guys. This is ULTIMATE Fighting Championships. Seems more like Mediocre Fihting Championships. Too many rules, too quick to call an end to the fights, not enough all out fighting. Let these guys FIGHT for crying out loud.

The sad part about of that was, I was running late to a UFC party and completely missed the First fight, with Joe Stevenson. I heard that was the best fight of the night! 👿 Damn Mapquest giving me hosed up directions!

This card looked great on paper…..but was a waste of time. Also what about Couture doing the play by play, very weak….need Joe Rogan back!!

sorry you missed the first one dude and don’t feel bad I got the same bad directions.

I was kinda glad I dind’t buy this UFC event.

Happy Tito won, but the stoppage was too early.

Ticked that silvia won, but it look like thye weren’t there to fight.

I think that might have been my last UFC I will watch. Cuz they keep getting worse and are a waste of money.

The Tito/Shamrock fight was disappointing, but it wasn’t stopped too early. Shamrock couldn’t defend after the second elbow rained down on him, and took another four or five with his hands down by his waist. A few more of those, and they’d be carrying him out of the cage. And, Shamrock would have ended up exactly where Tito said he wanted to put him, in an ambulance headed to a local trauma center.

The Arlowski/Sylvia fight was a bunch’a bullshit. It’s pretty sad when the ref is the one trying to get the fighters going. Arlowski was landing some nice kicks to Sylvia’s inside knee early on. He should’ve kept that up, gone for a take down, tried a crazy sambo submission. Anything! Instead, zzzZZZzzz, total snoozer.

Frank Mir was fat, slow, and gassed. Not a pretty picture.

UFC 61 left me with a bad case of blue balls. 👿

Damn, John went to the big fight and didn’t take me? 😥

But I guess I didn’t miss anything. They should have paid US to watch this crap. Maybe we should all sign a petition to have our money refunded.

Come on, championship fight and all they can do is throw out some jabs and the occasional low kick for 25 minutes?

Shamrock/Ortiz should have gone on at least a bit longer to see if Shamrock would make an attempt to defend. The elbows looked vicious, but with all of the build up and the previous fight of the night a bloodbath with blood squirting everywhere which wasn’t stopped until the end of the round, people couldn’t help but be disappointed with the outcome of this one. On the other hand, Shamrock wasn’t really defending, not even putting his hands up. Don’t know why, he looked fine after the fight had been stopped, but maybe he was rocked for a moment and that’s why his hands were down?

Frank Mir looked like a sleepwalker. He had put on way too much weight. A better fighter would have probably knocked him out quickly.

Yeah, Silvia is a chump, I just wish Arlovski would have got in there and went to work. As they said in Top Gun, \”Damn it Maverick, ENGAGE!!\”.

    Re:

He did look fine after the fight, and ready to fight some more. I know that the elbows LOOKED vicious and his hands were down, but it didn’t look like they did much damage. Shamrock is a big, tough guy. Some people can withstand a lot. He can, and although I feel that he would have lost had it continued, he most certainly COULD have and WANTED to continue. They stopped it way too soon. He did not tap out. His corner did not throw in the towell. He did not get \”knocked out.\” He was not in visible pain or real trouble. Let the fight go on!!!

If he was gushing blood and swollen and visisbly hurting…sure, stop the fight. But come one. This is ULTIMATE fighting folks. NHB, best of the best, all out fighting. Rules? Sure, we need them, but I think they have taken it to an extreme that is not good for the UFC. Just my opinion.

Or how about this: approach it kind of like boxing…once the ref stopped the fight, have a doctor look at his face. Is he coherent? Yes. Is he bleeding profusely? No. Is his eye swollen over? No. OK then, let the fight continue.

    Make sense, no?

UFC 61 was a big \”Joke\”. The best fight was the first fight and it should have been stopped early on after they guy lost his first \”gallon\” of blood. The gash on the head was really nasty…. (Oh Yeah!!) Every other fight was either too slow, too quick, or too long…. How depressing… Maybe it’s time to watch Pride or K1!!!

    Re:

i agree with everyone’s comments here…it was total crap!!! Sylvia and Arlovski were both too scared to commit to anything…Frank Mir needs to work on his cardio instead of drinking beer…man he’s out of shape now. My favourite fight was the Josh vs. Josh….i just wished they showed all the undercard fights intsead of the main event and the Mir fight.

I feel bad for my Krav instructors who flew out there from kitchener, ON Canada to see that…i’d be soooooooo mad if that’s the one that i went out to see…oh well i’m sure it was still a great experience.

How did Jeff Monson’s fight look?

I was at a party and snuck off to the family’s computer every 30 min. to check the \”Sherdog\” play-by-play which is pretty well done.

I was stoked to hear about the Chuck-Axe Murderer Fight in November. It will be weird if Chuck loses to Babalu next month. Either way, both should be good fights. I put my money on Chuck over Babalu and Wandy over Chuck. Chuck is a power hitter as we all know but he has no ground game(at least that I have seen in all his fights). He knows how to DEFEND against a shoot which is good, but someday….

Also, what kind of money do PRIDE guys make? Yah, just curious.

they make quite a bit more than UFC. in fact I am surprised Wand took this fight. the champs make at least twice or more than UFC pays for headliners, plus all the merchanizing. bob sapp is on morning shows and a bunch of fighters have toys and shirts made in their image.however the competitions is much tougher.
