I’m looking for a video of some guys doing a live fire test to see if the gun jammed or the fingers burned. I remember it from a few years ago. I thought it was a couple krav guys, but could’ve been another foruim. Anybody, remember it , have it or remember the discussion. Appreciate the help

Don’t know if this helps or not — twice now (once in the VIP/3rd party Protection Course and also during my training in Israel), I went through the drill of grasping the pistol (9mm and .40) from the side, while it was being fired (to simulate one’s hold on the weapon during a redirect and having the weapon discharge). All you feel is a little tug and a small bit of warmth — the aftermath to your hand being only slight discoloration from the “blow-back”. Photos are posted on my facebook page (before and after) and I will see if I can figure out how to copy them to this forum.

Overall, when conducted correctly and safely, this drill is a good one for understanding that the slide will not tear up your skin, the “blow-back” will not burn you, and if it is a semi-automatic or automatic the gun will most likely jam and not be ready for immediate fire.

However, I would not recommend you just going out and trying this — as it is never a good idea to play with a firearm; but, hey if you must — I am a firm believer in job security (for me) and Darwinism (for mankind).

thumbsup I’d appreciate ie. I’m in the middle of a discussion on another board…oh no don’t do this because it will tear up the hand..I remember the discussion here, thought I saw video. I’m usually never wrong, cept whrn I am

Thank You. So mara Jade doesn’t get mad at me again. Welcome to the forum

El Effe, found it. CJ’s Dad saves my bacon again as the san soo guys were circling in for the kill. I think I piss them off:dunno: Don’t know why.

One of the reasons i started krav was a discussion with my san soo teacher. I loaned him my copy of Complete krav. Next day he brought it back starts slamming. The raise of the foot on punches bothered him. WTF, pretty common. Next day he was slamming 360 defense. I pointed out that windmill blocks have to go away from the attack then back to it. Meaning on a right punch, my left arm windmills either outside or inside my body before intercepting. Action beats reaction. people don’t want to look at other beliefs for fear it weakens their own. Oh well.

    All,

    Hope I don’t stir-up a rats nest but, here goes…

I have never seen this done with a live pistol but, I have two personal experiences about why you should never do this with a revolver or, a blank gun.

In a revolver, the gas that blows out between the cylinder and rear of the barrel (called the forcing cone) is traveling at supersonic speeds. Years ago, I was competing in a Conventional Pistol Match (BTW: I was Master classified at the time) and a competitor on the line next to me called for assistance. It was a controlled situation with the barrel pointed safely down-range… I went to take the firearm from his hand and when my hands were about 3 inches away, he pulled the trigger (God only knows why he did that). The pressure blast damaged my skin leaving a 1/2″ wide path that looked similar to a rope burn. There is no doubt in my mind, that if my hand were firmly grabbing the cylinder area, the damage would have been much greater.

I personally know of one other person (and I was present when it happened) whose hand was injured by a Glock training gun. It’s an operational replica of a Glock 19 but, the barrel is plugged and it’s chambered for an 8mm (yes, 8mm) blank cartridge. All of the discharge gases blow out of the barrel’s breech and out the ejection port. Emergency surgery was required to fix the damage to the base of a hand.

Morale of the story: Don’t mess with 40,000 PSI of 1200 foot-per-second gas unless it’s a life or death situation.

Question I guess is then would you rather eat a bullet or need a few stitches or some aloe?

Are there vids of revolver grabs live fired. Do krav techs differ by gun type. I know crapolla on the subject:dunno: yeah I know look it up…I will:):

If you are still looking for a vid where someone holds a pistol with his hand over the slide while it is being fired look no further http://www.kravmaga.nl/nl/media-videos.html if you click on “instructeur houd pistool vast tijdens vuren” you will get an eleven second video of this.

Guys I’m having trouble finding another of these vids. Its of a grab on a Jericho. Pretty sure it was Israeli. I know its on youtube but I haven’t tripped over it. If any one else does I’d appreaciate it. I’m in conversation with an excellent San soo Master in Tennessee. He was sure it would burn and tear up the hand. He was impressed by the vids. Did wonder if it was blanks or a light load as the gun didn’t jump alot…could’ve been…i thyought the Jericho jumped a bit

    Thanks

commando krav is great but it lacks an offensive side so i crosstrain in defendo and fairbairn and sykes ( get tough )

I like the wrist grab but the reversal sweeps a large area (almost 180*). Fine if no one is around but how often is that going to be the case?

I prefer this method of redirect forward/down and continue with the muzzle down and then back towards the attacker. If there is a discharge there’s much less chance of innocents getting struck.

With all due respect, the disarm to the live side (driving your neck/shoulder onto the gunman’s wrist) looks VERY dangerous. I, for one, would be very hesitant to give the gunman the back of my neck.

    Just my $.02
