I’m new to Krav and somewhat still evaluating it. I was wondering in the 360 defense all the attacks are coming from either the side, bottom, or top. What defense is used to defend against a straight punch jab or cross. Is there a defense for the uppercut?

For straight punches, you could use “Inside Defense” which is basically redirection of the punch with same side hand and a slight head movement to the outside. You can also use an A-Frame (palm of hands on forehead slightly angled out to create the “A”, chin down, eyes on opponent) and roll with the punch.

I thought I would reply even though others will reply after me who will be more eloquent and describe things better.
Yes there is a different defense for a straight jab or cross. Yes there is a defense for the uppercut.
Inside defenses are used for the jab or cross. It is a redirection done with the same side hand as the punch that is coming. The hand is bladed (fingers straight), the arm goes forward towards the opposite shoulder, just enough to make the incoming hand go off past the face. The head moves slightly to the side of the defense and forward. I think the key is that it is a very subtle movement.
The defense for the uppercut is very close to throwing your own uppercut from the same side the uppercut is coming from, causing the same kind of redirection.
Soon others will clean up what I have written.

Dave put it pretty well. Only thing I say is that I normally have my hands cupped more than straight. It just gives me personally a better feel for control because then I already have a “hook” in place. Also the contact you make with thier incoming hand with your hand is a sliding motion down thier forearm, all you are doing is redirecting thier punch slightly.
A good way to visualize this is to square up with somone and have them put thier arm/fist streched out and on your chin. Then with your hand VERY slightly push it off until it no longer makes contact with your body. You’ll see how little you need to move to actually defend against a straight punch.

Yep, thats correct…. You’ll learn inside defenses for right/left straight punches to the face. You’ll also learn sparring defense for inside punches to the body… better using the 360 low defense in real life should an attacker have a weapon.
Good luck!

The inside defense is one of the things that sold me on krav.
And Mr Levine’s book is the best defense book out there.
He just doesn’t give you technic but also tips that still blow my mind.
I think of the inside defense as an open handed jab that parries
the fist away from the face. And yes i know there is a head movement
incase the defense fails.June 28, 2008 at 12:57 am #67477kms1974MemberRe: 360 defense question

November 13, 2012 at 6:55 am #86118kevinmackMemberRe: 360 defense question
I am not sure there is an actual name for it but looks like a mix between a 360 #2 angle block and an overhead stick defense.Your arm is making contact with the forearm and bicep of the attacker. Its mean to be used if you cant read whether or not the attack is an outside attack or an inside attack.

Is there any possibility you can defend straight punch with 360 when you do it fast enough?
