quote Ryan:How to kick… http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kIb_6uIvuig&feature=relatedHe doesn’t really get started until about a minute into the vid.
Looks like he drops BOTH hands. Might weigh a buck-twenty but would definitely make me cry with one of those kicks. That trainer was highly annoying.

Pornsenah fights at 126 last I saw.
Saenchai, who is one of the all time greats is fighting American Kevin Ross at Anaheim Convention Center in August on a card that feature some other prominent Thai’s. Baukaw was suppose to be on the card as well but isn’t :o(

I didn’t want to post another thread on round kicks, but is there any difference between keeping your leg straight when throwing a round kick, or bending the knee when throwing it?
Also with footwork, in a Thai kick, you step and pivot, but in a Krav round kick, you don’t. Is there a reason for this?

in muay thai you dont always step and pivot….its just an easier way to move the hip. A Krav Maga kick is a Krav Maga kick.

Well, I mean, style aside, just mechanically speaking, are there real differences?

I like Geoff Thompson example in this video. Starts at about .55 seconds.
More geared towards self defense. Not going to get any style points from martial artists but it’s quick.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PT0PFCzQaI0&feature=youtube_gdata_player

That’s actually Peter Consterdine kicking. GT is in the video, but he’s not the one kicking.

Your absolutely right Ryan. Thanks for the correction.

The venue and date for the Saenchai vs Kevin Ross fight has changed to Aug 14th at the Commerce Casino in LA. This is a 1200 seat venue and all seats are good…Think of watching Ali in a small venue….i’m there. Kevin Ross besides being arguably the best of Americans in MT is responsible for getting his ex GF involved in the sport. Her name is Gina Caranno (SP) of Strikeforce fame

No worries!
I’d love to see that fight. Anyone in the area that’s able should definitely check it out.

Wish you were here too Ryan. It would be cool to meet you
There is a bunch of fights with top thai fighters coming to the LA area in the next few months starting this weekend. Saenchai’s August event has Coke fighting as well. In early Sept Baukaw is here on another thai laden card. There is sometype of fight league starting up with top thais at the forefront but I’m unclear on the details as its all second hand but i think this is the start of it
the other thing is a lot of the schools in Thailand are adding cages and the fighters are starting to train mma because of the money or so I’ve been told
Not sure what it has to do with the op other than it’s an opportunity to look at what the top guys do, explore why and then question if it’s applicaple to the street and why.
Every so often one of the older kru’s will pull me aside and show me something that is more street applicable. Mostly because I’m way beyond ever being able to do the sport

In my MT class the head kru tells us sometimes it is best to just extend your arm straight out when you kick. This give you an extra barrier of defense against an attack or wall.
So if you throw a right kick then your right arm extends outward at the same time in a straight line.
This is a different way than just bringing your right hand down and past your hip.Just what my Kru said.
