Most things taught in law enforcement classes probably have little relevance to me as a civilian. However, gun retention is something that might be useful, just in case I’m doing my KM gun defense, end up with the weapon, try to make distance, but the attacker is quicker, grabs the weapon and a struggle ensues.
Or a civilian could be at home, owns a gun for protection, hears a noise and goes to investigate, gun in hand and a guy jumps out of a corner and tries to grab the weapon (you know, the kind of thing that always seems to happen in the movies 😉 ).
Or he might have a concealed weapon permit and draws the gun on someone in the street, someone he sees as a threat, gets too close (he shouldn’t, but maybe he does) and the guy tries to take the gun.
So, there could be applications for civilians in that regard and it may be a useful thing to learn.
