All,
Our very own Sam “The Sandman” Martin has his first MMA fight at the Hard Rock Hotel Casino in Las Vegas,NV. His opponent is a BJJ/ Muay Thai fighter. Sam has been busting his butt in the gym. He recently went to North Carolina to train with Jeff Jimmo, Ryan Lamereaux and Mike Muscat! Sam is ready for his fight! Christian Ortiz has been Sam’s primary conditioning coach and Sam is at fight weight (155) right now. He looks great!
Our little brother Sam has made us very proud! Support Sam! Take the road trip! Get to Vegas we are going to party after Sam’s victory!

Good Luck Sam on your first fight. Here is a short clip of how my first 155 fight went. Just to be sure (I’m the guy standing at the end).
My Krav instructor said it was almost like he yelled “He’s got a knife” and the block counter drill took care of the rest.

Hey D……did Sam take Phase B in LA earlier this year….maybe February? If so, tell him his Phase partner sends good luck wishes. 🙂
Even if it’s NOT him….hearing a Kravist is doing an MMA fight sounds like a hoot!

Hello All,
Well Sam’s debut did not go well. He was prepared. He looked awesome. The first round was competitive in fact Sam probably won the first round. Then in the second round he got caught with some hard shots and was stopped in the second round! We are very proud of Sam as he represented himself and the school with courage.
Kevin Randleman (yes that Kevin Randleman) was Sam’s wrestling coach. We spoke after the fight and we know where Sam needs to improve. So we are going back to work now and try to prepare him for his next fight!
Thanks to all of you guys for your support and interest. Sam will fight again soon and we know the outcome will be different.

Much love to Sam for fighting hard. Did Sam have other martial arts background going in to the fight? My understanding is that Krav Maga practitioners don’t train for ring fighting. I can understand if Sam went in with other MMA background, but did he go in there with the sole basis of Krav maga as his fighting style? Guess Im being devils advocate, but I have wondered about this in the past. Now if Sam could eye gouge, kick to the groin, and do all else that we train for if and when being attacked, then I believe Sam would of ate the other guy up for breakfast.

It’s interesting,
Sam trains primarily in Krav Maga. However his MMA training was sport specific. He works with Kevin Randleman and other MMA types to build that skill set. Sam actually did throw a knee to his opponents groin it was an accident but his opponent immediately went to the ground in pain.
As it turns out we saw this happen on a few other occasions during other fights and the result was always the same. The fighter stopped fighting and went fetal. If Krav Maga were allowed there is no doubt Sam would have faired better. However it was an MMA event and as it stands the rules are what they are. No excuses and I certainly do not want to take anything away from Jimmy,Sam’s opponent, he fought very very well.
