Ryan, I’ll send you an e-mail.
April 18, 2006 at 5:03 pm #46251armor-allMemberWhy are so many of the younger KM instructors so self-absorbed?
October 26, 2005 at 9:03 pm #40941armor-allMemberHate to say it, but spinning hook kick (sans jump) is actually a blue belt technique. There are also some double-kick combinations in the brown belt curriculum where both legs end up off the ground. There is at least some application for these techniques at a higher level.
October 19, 2005 at 1:41 pm #40779armor-allMemberPlantman, I get it all the time after practicing rear naked chokes or guillotines. Feels like I have a rock in my throat for about 2-3 days & then it goes away.
October 17, 2005 at 2:14 pm #40692armor-allMember1. Bob or weave, left hook to the body, left hook to the head, right straight, right straight, left kick
2. Left uppercut, right straight, left kick
3. Left uppercut, right straight, left hook, right straight, left hook, right straight, left kick
4. Jab, right uppercut, left hook, right straight, left kick
October 14, 2005 at 5:13 pm #40637armor-allMemberIt could also be carpal or cupal (sp?) tunnel syndrome. I’ve met a couple of female newbies having similar types of pains due to a combination of punching and their computer jobs.
Try supplementing your conditioning with doing pushups on your fists and on your fingertips. Strengthening the forearm muscles can really help in prevention. And like Emil has mentioned, always wrap your hands.
October 14, 2005 at 5:05 pm #40636armor-allMemberDude, it’s just a hat. Plenty of people wear fashionable clothing nowadays that depicts boxing, karate, or some other martial art.
Typically it’s not what you wear that will start a situation, but how you act and what you say. A cocky attitude may stave off the predators who are looking for an easy mark, but it can also be chum for those sharks who are out for something to prove. Being humble and aware of your surroundings is the best way to avoid both types of attackers.
October 7, 2005 at 4:00 pm #40468armor-allMemberHere’s another decent site if you’re using the Mexican-style handwraps:
September 14, 2005 at 8:54 pm #40010armor-allMemberLet your instructor know if you would like more exposure to ground fighting. What you need to know to protect yourself against the more common attacks is covered in the Level 1 (Yellow Belt) and 2 (Orange Belt) curriculum.
September 4, 2005 at 3:53 pm #39832armor-allMemberSpread out your four fingers and tuck in your thumb into your palm. Turn your hand 45 degrees at the strike to make sure at least one of the fingers hits an eye.
September 4, 2005 at 3:50 pm #39831armor-allMemberRyan, unfortunately I won’t be able to make it this time. I have validation test at work going on the months of October & November. Lots of 24 hour shifts and most likely weekends.
GK, it was a mix of big and small guys. I didn’t see any women at this particular session.
August 31, 2005 at 4:24 pm #39783armor-allMemberHe did privates all during the week. The Friday session, however, appeared to be a mix of his private students, NTC instructors & employees, NTC students, and a few guys who I was told had come from some nearby schools to cross train. Had Jon Pascal not beat us down earlier in the day, I would have loved to join in. Then again, Ryan said he was going to do the MMA class. Tough guy… 😉
August 30, 2005 at 4:38 pm #39761armor-allMemberI saw him doing a Friday (at least) 2-hour marathon sparring session at the NTC with about 15 other guys just last month. It appears he’s not totally out of reach for you guys.
August 19, 2005 at 12:23 pm #39504armor-allMemberLike I said, still no answer to the question.
August 19, 2005 at 12:22 pm #39503armor-allMemberI don’t think he has an answer, Ryan. That’s why he continues to dodge the question.
