Re: Belt testing and advancement
quote BradM:Just curious. Where is the school you train at located? I as because the school in trained at in GA was the same. The TKD never interfaced with the Krav. They werelike two seperate entities.Kentucky. The Krav Maga program and the TKD program are kept separate. If our KM instructor has just taught a TKD class he makes sure to change out of his gi and into KM apparel before we start KM. If you didn’t get there early for class, you would never know TKD was taught there.
Like HazardousSmoker’s classes, ours are small, usually about a dozen people, but they are growing. We have an MMA class that meets there once a week (sometimes two or three).

The ATA school I currently train at has the curriculum broken up into 9 levels instead of 5. We do the same 16 week rotation which includes everything from basic combatives to guns and knives. Doesn’t seem kosher.

CJ’s Dad, or Mara Jade, may be able to answer your questions about that as I am not sure.

Our school in Simi Valley just opened up last year. They began with teaching Level 1 only. A couple of weeks ago we had the first Level 1 test and they added a Level 2 class. There is also a mixed level class instructed by a KM black belt. Some of the instructors have gone through the advanced phase courses so they are able to teach the higher levels and as more students advance, they will be adding those classes as well. I would assume that having the higher level classes depends on the proficiency and demand of the school’s students. Talk to your instructors and see where you are and what their plans are for higher level classes.

and fwiw the bb instructors she talking about are La Rev and Dave Bluestien. So Simi is in good hands under Jeremy Stafford and his staff. Heís even pulled in fitness instructors from NTC (our own Merim) Heck I even make guest appearances to train up there.
Like was suggested, be your own advocate talk to your instructors!

Trish’s Avatar is in no way endorsed by Simi Valley Krav Maga.

Yep. I really enjoyed teaching KM students who had never experienced a bag class. Great fun!
Although next time, we’ll have to get Sean to actually take the class, rather than watch from the sidelines. thumbsup

That wussy avatar brings shame to the school. Can’t you try to find a war kitty?

I thought that WAS a war kitty. I mean, how much more can you expect from a kitty?
