Hi all, I’m looking into taking KM.

How pratical or not practical is KM for real life self defense?

    Marc

That is like walking into a Ford dealer and asking them how good their cars are.

    Here are my views:

In short, it will totally depend on your instructors. There seems to be a huge range in the quality of instruction and schools out there. Mine appears to be as bad as they come.

    Thank you!

I’m looking at a couple of schools in the Philadelphia area. Do you know anything about Ernie Kirk’s school.

What’s the deal with Krav Maga in the Philadelphia area? Both Ernie Kirk and Kim Vigsbo have schools with Krav Maga logos and classes but neither is listed on the kravmaga.com website. Are they still associated with Krav Maga Worldwide?
Alan Feldman’s school is listed but it is just to far away.

I’m in Philly, do you have their contact info?

Well, got my butt kicked the other day and been thinking about it. I know speed and timing will come with practice, but I was a bit surprised at how slow my reaction time was.

I guess what I would like some opinions on, is, what people do to get better at sparring, more so then just sparring.

For instance, I think next time I’m going to be a bit more patient, not force the fight. The jab is a great weapon, but this person had the reach on me. So even when I would jab to try and get him away, he still could hit me. Trying to get the inside sucked or should I say had a price to pay.

Is there anyone out there that has some techinques to sparring, doesn’t have to be against taller people.

I’m in the same boat. My sparring techniques are crappy at this point, and I pretty much get owned every time I’m in fight class. I think it’s just a matter of putting in the time, DK.

Siayn, I like how your class structures sparring. It seems a much better method than just tossing two students together with the only instruction being to keep your hands up and not to hit below the crotch.

Against a taller person with a bigger reach….

Counter is the key. Time the jab and slip right in. It will take practice.

Look at the Ali/Frazier fights. Ali had a reach advantage. Frazier either would time the jabs or just \”bull right in\” and would cover up and just close the gap.

Sometimes you have to take a couple to get in a situation like that.

    Hi folks,

What can I expect from training in KM?

    Why I want to train?

To defend myself and my family is necessary.

I often get into confrontations when walking to the parking lot at night from work. Got mugged once.

As far as protecting my wife and kids… Was in a situation when someone bumped into me at a park. He wanted to start a fight and swung at me.

Situations like that. Not to look for a fight, but to protect.
