Re: Krav is killing my self defense ability 🙂

I just tested on Saturday in San Antonio. My piriformis (sciatic pain in the butt) is killing me now. Didnt feel it until after the test. I wont find out for a week if I passed.

Might go back to KM tonight. I skipped out Sunday, Monday of any workouts.

    Re: Why Krav?

Im late to this post but the story is I was in the best shape of my life when I did boxing in NYC (it was for fitness but had the most insane instructor –balanced both fear and humor in one body). One week I was away and the sub make us do some drills I questioned but did them anyway. Bottom line: I got majorly injured. My shoulders cannot even be surgurically repaired. So I resign myself to spin and running for the rest of my days. My shoulders still dislocate today.

So, I move to San Antonio and gain 25 pounds (half from trying all the good foods and half because I just cant seem to get into working out. I did join a gym but the instructors just werent any good compared to NYC).

I finally decide Im fat, miserable and need some kick butt exercise. I find out there is Krav Maga here but wonder if I can do it with my shoulders. I decide despite the cost, Im going to join anyway and hope for the best. That was THREE WEEKS ago. My body is bruised (knuckles and knees) but I am blissfully happy. I find myself doing 2 hour nights at the KM center. I find the instructors masachistic but I go home and rave about it. Dh is so happy. He says he got his wife back (guess i have been missing for 2 years and didnt know it). I realize its much harder with 25 pounds hanging on but I will get back into fighting shape. So far the shoulders are good. im trying to keep things balanced so I dont over do it too much.

Re: New Member in San Antonio

I have gloves that I carry (had them from my boxing days).

I know when I was boxing Dh and I were going through a marriage crisis and it kept me from killing him. Of course, we are back to “normal” marriage life but we still have those days!!

Re: New Member in San Antonio

Jesse, I cannot do flyes but I can pretty much do the other things. I’m trying to find a balance of KM classes and the cardio. I did two classes back to back and boy I was hurting the next day.

Mara, I wish I could go everyday. Wednesdays I cant go because I work with teens. But every other day since I joined, I have gone to at least one class. I havent ventured back to my old gym in SA since I started. With work and family, its hard to find the time.

I would love Dh to try it as well. But he is a very large guy and is afraid it would be too much at this point.

I thought Women Fight looked interesting. Now if I can get this weight off… Rome wasnt built in a day.

    Re: Welcome -cmon Introduce Yourself

I posted in the other part of this forum telling people about myself. oops. Im already making mistakes.

I just start taking classes in San Antonio. This is the start of my third week. I love it. I do have a permanent shoulder injury so I really have to be careful with pushups and some other exercises.

Im horribly out of shape after moving from NYC to San Antonio. So Im hoping all this will get me back into fighting shape.

BTW, Pete has already clocked me once. My partner wasnt giving me enough juice I guess and Pete decided to teach me a lesson. While I blocked when he walked away, I thought to myself “Where’s my mommy?” LOL.
