Re: New LAPD Recruit seeking advice

So I got an 85 on my written, been told that’s good, though my competitive spirit has me wondering what it would’ve taken to get a 100…

Just passed my PAT this past Sunday, killed myself on the stationary bike, HAD to pass the 1 mile mark, ended with 1.02, and almost passing out at the end!

Next is my Initial Background on the 11th, will continue to keep you all posted on my progress. Will see some of you at Krav training too.

Re: New LAPD Recruit seeking advice

No worries about staying out of trouble; the combination of being 38YO, not drinking, and not smoking basically makes me the epitome of Adam Ant’s “Goody Two Shoes” Song! My last serious mistake was 20 years ago, everything since then has been minimal to non-existent. Last speeding ticket was almost 6 years ago, and haven’t had to fight in over 16 years, verbal judo is pretty effective.

I’ll keep you posted on my progress. Just cleared the first hurdle, found out I passed the written test, so next up is the PAT and my initial background. I’ve got nothing to hide, plan on being honest and upfront about all past transgressions and see where the cards fall. Hopefully they can see that I seriously want to be of service, and my past is just that, my past.

Re: New LAPD Recruit seeking advice

Don, Kirsten, and mara_jade, just want to say thanks for the words, and the advice, much appreciated. I’ll definitely be taking your advice Kirsten and practice my answers and presentation. I’m currently a dive instructor and so am used to speaking in front of people, but practice never hurts, and I’ll be memorizing the Mission Statement and the names, as you suggested. Thanks for that.

Don, already started that this morning, got the welcome packet this weekend and it has a list of all the paperwork needed, so I’ve started making calls and writing letters. Again, thanks for the advice, any and all is welcome and taken to heart.

Re: Did anyone else feel dumb at there first class?

coderedx: Everyone starts off like you, even if you’ve had other fight experience. I used to box years ago (more like decades ago) and had to UN-learn a lot of habits from that, so I felt like a total noobie at first, but as long as you pay attention, take all the guidance the instructors give you, AND put heart into your training, you’ll be fine.

dma2330: Same thing, Put all your heart into the training sessions, go all out instead of half hearted, and take the lessons seriously, and you’ll see change happening, even week to week. Keep at it, focus, and good luck!
